Beaver Road Primary School is an oversubscribed three form entry primary school, situated in the heart of Didsbury village, South Manchester. Our school was graded to be Outstanding in 2011 and in 2014 Beaver Road maintains the Outstanding grading.

At Beaver Road Primary School we believe excellent teaching gives children the life chances they deserve. We work hard to provide a caring, stimulating and inclusive environment to ensure that every child reaches their full potential. We recognise that you know your child best and you may feel that they need additional help or support for some or all of their time at Our School. Not all children will need extra support with their learning but the progress of all children at Beaver Road is monitored closely to ensure support is provided where necessary.

Under the terms of the co-ordinated admissions scheme, the LA is responsible for co-ordinating the admission of all children to Manchester schools and academies. It is the responsibility of the governing Body of Beaver Road Academy Trust to draft, consult on and determine the admission arrangements of all academies within the trust. This policy includes admission arrangement for Beaver Road Primary School.

All parents are required to apply to their home LA regardless of where the school/academy they are applying for is situated. Manchester residents will apply to the Manchester LA. The LA will liaise with other Admission Authorities in Manchester and other LA’s where required. Manchester LA will inform parents/carers in writing of the outcomes of their application.

The school curriculum comprises all the learning and other experiences that each school plans for its pupils. The national curriculum is one part of the school curriculum. The National Curriculum provides pupils with an introduction to the essential knowledge that they need to be educated citizens. It introduces pupils to the best that has been thought and said; and helps engender an appreciation of human creativity and achievement.

The National Curriculum is just one element in the education of every child. There is time and space in the school day and in each week, term and year to range beyond the National Curriculum specifications. The National Curriculum provides an outline of core knowledge around which teachers can develop exciting and stimulating lessons to promote the development of pupils knowledge, understanding and skills as part of the wider school curriculum.

As an Academy school, Beaver Road does not have to follow the National Curriculum. However the School Senior Leadership Team have decided to incorporate the new National Curriculum in to the Beaver Road school curriculum.

We have adopted the Learning Challenge approach developed by Focus Education and used by many very successful schools. The Learning Challenge concept is built around the principle of greater pupil involvement in their work, resulting in a meaningful and relevant curriculum that promotes high standards.

The Learning Challenge Curriculum is an approach to structuring and delivering the curriculum; often described as an approach for 'intelligent schools'. It is under-pinned by a secure pedagogical framework which weaves together the critical elements of curriculum, teaching & learning and assessment.

Beaver Road is an Outstanding school because of the quality of the teaching that goes on day-in, day-out in classrooms. Over several years of innovation, we have developed an approach to Teaching and Learning that we believe secures the best possible learning environment for children to flourish.

The Pupil Premium is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and to close the gap between them and their peers.

Children learn and develop in different ways. Teachers know and understand this and use different teaching styles to plan work at different levels in order to meet the needs of all pupils in their class. This is called “Quality First Teaching.” All pupils at Beaver Road receive “Quality First Teaching” from their class teacher. Our aim is to provide the highest quality learning environment for your child and for them to achieve their full potential. All our classes, when necessary, are supported by teaching assistants and pupils are offered additional support or catch up intervention programmes where needed.

At Beaver Road the progress and attainment of all pupils is reviewed on a termly basis by the School Leadership Team. These termly pupil progress meetings help identify children who may need additional support. If a child continues to have difficulty after intervention or has a high level of difficulty when they join Our School, they may be considered to have special educational needs/disability (SEND) and are placed on the SEND register. This decision is made in partnership with Parents and Carers.

At Beaver Road Primary School teaching and learning opportunities are adapted and continually evaluated (with support of external agencies when required) to ensure the needs of all our learners are met. Parents and Carers should not feel unduly anxious about such additional support as it allows children to receive the specific help they need to make the next steps in their learning journey. To ensure that staff are aware of children’s needs some children create a Pupil Passport in conjunction with their class teacher and their parents. The Pupil Passport is designed so that staff have the correct information. This means that appropriate strategies are used to ensure that teaching has the maximum impact and pupils feel valued and their needs are understood.
