Our aim at Cardonald Primary is to provide an environment where our pupils feel safe, happy and have opportunities to learn in a stimulating and exciting way. We want them to ‘be the best they can be’, to be confident and fulfilled. Most of all, we want our pupils to enjoy being at school and to remember us with fondness when they move upwards and onwards.
We aim to provide a pleasant and secure learning environment, to encourage each of our children to develop their full potential, whilst developing a happy working relationship between teacher and child. We appreciate the contribution made by parents in achieving our aims and trust that we can look forward to your continuing support in the future. These stated aims ensure that all associated with the school have clear goals and targets to strive to achieve. These are exciting times in education and we are determined to equip our pupils for life in the 21st century in a supportive and sensitive manner. We hope that you and your family will enjoy finding out more about our school and look forward to having you and your family join us at Cardonald.
Our Values
In Cardonald Primary we aim to
In Cardonald, we follow the principles for the curriculum planning as laid down by the Scottish Executive and Glasgow City Council. We offer a balanced variety of subjects designed to meet the present and future needs of our young people.
Teaching and Learning are organised to allow a natural progression from one stage to another with children moving at their own individual pace. Teachers work with the whole class, groups or individuals depending on what is appropriate at any given time. Children of today are actively involved with projects, experiments, problem solving, research, design and build, all of which help develop skills, knowledge and confidence. Recent initiatives have enabled children to have increased opportunities for Active Learning and decision making in a variety of ways.
All subjects are available to all pupils, equal opportunities being provided for both boys and girls. We also endeavour to develop anti racist attitude by encouraging children to learn about places, people and events throughout the world, presented through a non biased approach. It is the responsibility of all staff to provide equal opportunity and social justice.
Currently the primary school curriculum consists of Literacy and English, Numeracy and Mathematics, Health and Well Being, Sciences, Social Studies, Technologies, Expressive Arts and Religious and Moral Education. Policy review in all areas is on going. Priorities are highlighted in the school improvement plan and sit side by side with the implementation of Curriculum for Excellence outcomes and experiences in each curricular area. Each class has 2 one hour PE slots per week, in line with National recommendations. Class Teachers have responsibility for delivering these lessons to their classes.
