Throughout their schooling at Llandaff City Church in Wales Primary School, we encourage the children to think for themselves and be self-disciplined by developing positive attitudes, extending their knowledge and developing appropriate skills in a caring, Christian community, while valuing those children of other religions and those without religious commitment. We recognise that teachers, support staff, governors, parents and voluntary workers make a significant contribution and need to work together for the School, to help its children achieve their best.

We aim:

  • To create a happy and secure School based on Christian principles within the tenets of the Church in Wales, where staff and children work and care for each other, stressing the verse from St Matthew's Gospel: "Always treat others as you would like them to treat you" (Ch. 7, v12)
  • To help children develop lively and enquiring minds, reaching their full potential with positive attitudes and behaviour to their work and those around them.
  • To provide an all-round curriculum which is relevant, interesting and which stretches children of all abilities within a stimulating environment.
  • To encourage children to take pride in themselves and their School.
  • To continue the effective training and development of all teaching and support staff, and governors.
  • To effectively support parents, students and other volunteers who work with the School and to maintain and develop our partnership with parents, the Cathedral and the local community.

As a Church in Wales School, we recognise that all our children have their own gifts, talents and skills. We aim to nurture these in each and every learner to ensure that they meet their full potential. At Llandaff City Primary we recognise the need for a shared and coherent approach to the curriculum, ensuring high standards are achieved through a balanced, enriched and challenging curriculum. The curriculum at Llandaff City Primary provides a thematic approach to learning. We have been bold with our vision in creating an imaginative, innovative and flexible curriculum which provides our learners with the skills and attitudes for life long learning in the 21st Century.

We deliver a distinctive curriculum that is appropriate for a Church School within Wales where the teaching of Religious Education is a high priority as a core subject. We firmly believe in providing for pupils with high abilities whilst enabling all pupils to flourish. Able pupils are stimulated and challenged to reach their full potential through carefully differentiated lessons and planned activities that extend their thinking. A challenging curriculum provides opportunities for activities which target the individual needs of each pupil within the classroom. A specifically designed enrichment programme provides our most able pupils with further learning opportunities in small group situations.

Outside partnerships have been formed with, for example, The Welsh College of Music and Drama, The BBC Orchestra, Rubicon Dance and The National Dance Company of Wales to ensure that we are able to offer opportunities for all our pupils to maximise their talents to the full.
