We are very proud of our school, which is a caring and happy environment. We believe that our school is warm, welcoming and inclusive, where children are supported and encouraged to enjoy learning and to develop their full potential.

We are a larger than average Catholic Primary School which works closely with our Parish to support the children in their preparations for the Sacraments.

We are a two form entry school and cater for children ages 3-11. There is also provision for younger children in the nearby Fountains and Vauxhall Children's Centre.

At St John's we strive to develop a life long love of learning through: An Exciting Curriculum, Confidence and self esteem. A safe, stimulating, and attractive learning environment. Positive attitudes and behaviour. Motivation and challenge.

The British values are: Democracy, The Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect, Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs.

We ensure that through our school vision, ethos, agreed rules, curriculum and teaching we promote respect and tolerance for all cultures, faiths and lifestyles. As educators we have a duty to prepare our children for life in modern Britain and to keep them safe. We value the importance of and support the current Ofsted guidance.

The promotion of modern British values and democracy is clearly evident within our school through the following: Assemblies and collective worship where we teach respect for all, right and wrong, tolerance and differences and respecting and following the law. R.E lessons which teach the children about other faiths as well as their own. Our School Council and a democratic system of voting and providing a "voice" for all pupils. Our School Mission Statement which outlines our commitment to tolerance, respect, celebration of differences. Anti bullying weeks. Our PHSE programme. Our History lessons which show how our British history has also helped to shape the modern Britain of today and the modern British values of our society.

Our school curriculum is based upon the National Curriculum, which was introduced in September 2014. Our R.E Curriculum is taught, using the ‘Come and See’ programme, as recommended by Liverpool Archdiocese.

Our curriculum not only enables our pupils to enjoy learning, but to practise their skills across a range of subject areas and to make meaningful cross-curricular links. St John's offers a high quality curriculum with real rigour and a focus upon high expectations in terms of pupil understanding, skills and knowledge.

Our school is extremely proud of the fact that we have gained several awards. This includes: North West Pupil Premium Award, "The Most Inspirational School" Award at the Educate Awards, The Basic Skills Award, Science Quality Award, Gold P.E Award, Healthy Schools Award, Liverpool Reading Quality Mark.

At St John’s early reading is taught using synthetic phonics as the main approach to reading. Pupils are systematically taught the sounds (phonemes), how to blend the sounds all through the words for reading and how to segment the sounds in order to spell words. They are taught to use their phonic skills and knowledge as the first approach to reading.

Here at St John’s we follow the Read Write Inc phonic programme. All children in Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 are taught in Read Write Inc groups daily. The programme is continued in Key Stage 2 for those children who need it. This is a very thorough and intense programme of learning and relies on good and prompt attendance at school. The children’s progress is assessed half termly and they are placed in groups according to ability.
