Our staff and children worked together to review our aims and our vision. Children were invited to design a logo which incorporated our vision. Carly a previous Primary 7 came up with the winning design. This is now displayed across the school to remind everyone of our vision for Craigton Primary and Nursery Class.

To realize our Vision we aim:

  • To educate each child through a broad and balanced curriculum.
  • To engage each child in a supportive and safe learning environment and set high expectations of pupil achievement and celebrate success.
  • To enrich the lives of our school community through our shared values.
  • To aspire to excellence in all aspects of school life.

As a school community, we discussed and selected five values which we felt were important for everyone to develop and display . These are:

  • Respect
  • Responsibility
  • Co-operation
  • Honesty
  • Love

Children are rewarded through certificates for displaying these values.

Our school uses Curriculum for Excellence as a framework for developing experiences which will enable our children to become successful learners, confident individuals and effective contributors through a broad general education.

This framework provides detail of experiences and outcomes related to differing levels from the the early years to the end of S3. Each child follows this broad curriculum at a level suited to his/her individual needs. Teaching and learning situations are organised to allow teachers to work with the whole class, groups or individuals and to allow children to be actively engaged in their learning developing motivation and depth of learning.

There are equal opportunities for all children irrespective of gender, race, religion or disability to participate fully in all aspects of our school curriculum.

To ensure breadth in the curriculum, it has been divided into eight main areas which are Numeracy, Literacy, Health and Well-Being, Expressive Arts, Sciences, Social Studies, Technologies and Religious and Moral Education. A description of each area, and how it is approached in our school, follows.
