Severn Primary School is supported by a highly skilled and dedicated team of teachers and support staff who work together to support all pupils, to achieve their full potential. Severn Primary School is situated in the heart of Canton, about one mile from the centre of Cardiff and serves a very diverse community with over fifty different spoken languages.
A large number of our families hail from Pakistan, Bangladesh, India and Somalia and we also have families from many other places around the world. We are immensely proud of our community that works and learns together in an atmosphere of mutual respect and tolerance.
As a school we are determined to inspire our pupils through delivering a curriculum which is exciting, engaging, and provides high quality earning experiences both inside and outside the classroom which fosters a love of learning. We aim to develop the whole child and place great emphasis on raising children’s self-esteem and well-being levels so they are ready, willing and able to learn.
All the staff at Severn Primary School have extremely high expectations of all the pupils and would like them to leave school as confident, polite and independent young people equipped with the appropriate skills and values to overcome the challenges of living and working in the 21st century becoming successful in whatever their eventual career paths will be.
We firmly believe that education is a partnership between home and school and working together to form positive relationships with parents and carers is extremely important to ensure the best possible outcomes for all learners.
Safeguarding and Child Protection are key priorities for Severn Primary School. We aim to support vulnerable children to ensure they are as safe as they can possibly be. Our school is committed to ensuring the safety and protection of all children and will take action to safeguard their well-being. We acknowledge that children have a right to protection and this is supported in the general ethos of our school.
The school's policy applies to the whole of the school's workforce, along with volunteers, governors and any contractors working on the school site. In particular Staff recruitment and selection - ensuring that all staff (volunteers etc.) have been appropriately DBS checked for their suitability, using the Safe Recruitment procedures.
