Pollokshields Primary School is situated on the Southside of Glasgow. We are a multi-cultural school which promotes equality and fairness through our everyday school life. We are a Rights Respecting School and our Class Charters are based on our shared values.
We share our School Values: Caring & Sharing, We value ourselves, each other and our world, Honest & Trustworthy: We value truth and fairness, Smart & Sensible: We value and enjoy our learning and success, Fair & Equal: We value and respect difference and equality.
We believe everybody should be treated fairly and with respect. To do this we follow our Golden Rules:
We aim to plan a broad, progressive education for all of our children which will give them the experiences and the skills to apply their learning throughout their lives. Our children benefit from a full programme of events and educational visits and excursions, and regularly engage in performances of music, dance and drama. We work with our local community to develop children's understanding of their role as citizens and also with our International partner schools to develop children's understanding of their place in the world and the impact they can have. Our children are actively involved in their learning, both in planning and in assessing their next steps. In addition our children have great opportunites to influence their school and their local and international communities through our programme of School Committtees in which every child is involved.
In line with all schools in Scotland we deliver the Curriculum for Excellence. We strive to deliver an education to every child which meets their needs and allows each child to achieve their potential. We take all opportunites to give our children experiences which will enhance their learning and in which they can apply the skills they are developing.
Curriculum areas include English language, maths, social studies, science, art, drama, music, religious education (with a focus on Islam, Sikhism and Christianity and their major festivals each term), Information and Communication Technology, physical education and sport, personal and social development and health and wellbeing. We are committed to teaching our children what it means to be good citizens. Each class teacher meets parents at the beginning of each year to discuss what will be covered that year.
