Bung Karno University

In 1983, Universitas Bung Karno's campus was located at Gedung Perguruan Rakyat, Jalan Jenderal Soedirman, Semanggi Jakarta. Then, it was moved to Gedung Wisma Ciliwung, Bukit Duri Tanjakan, South Jakarta. The establishment of Universitas Bung Karno gained POSITIVE response from public. This CAN be seen from the large number of people that applied to enroll either as student or lecturer. In the academic year of 1983/1984, the number of entrance exam participants were 4,200 people of 5,000 people that had filled the application form, while the number of lecturer applicants were 221 people.

Unfortunately, at that time the New Order Government did not permit the establishment of Universitas Bung Karno. Sixteen years later, after the fallen of New Order rezim, transitioning Government finally permitted Universitas Bung Karno to be established and agreed that all the teachings of Bung Karno to be taught to students. This occurred as the result of a meeting between the team of the foundation led by Rachmawati Soekarnoputri, SH and Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture, and followed by Decree of Education and Culture Ministry No. 101/D/0/1999 that has permitted the establishment of THE UNIVERSITY.

On June 25, 1999, the THIRD President of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Ing. BJ Habibie inaugurated the establishment of Universitas Bung Karno at the Presidential Palace and made Universitas Bung Karno the only university in Indonesia ESTABLISHED by the head of state in the Presidential Palace. ON JUNE 28TH 1999, the Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture inaugurated Bung Karno University's campus located at Jl. Kimia No. 20, Central Jakarta.

Universitas Bung Karno is a private university located in Central Jakarta, Indonesia. It is named after the Founding Father and first President of Indonesia, Soekarno also known as Bung Karno. Established by Yayasan Pendidikan Soekarno (Soekarno Foundation for Education) in 1999 and it was officially inaugurated by the third President of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Ing. B.J. Habibie at the Presidential Palace.

The symbol's shapes Painting of Bung Karno circled by rice plant, cotton, golden chain, and a book with UBK written on it. The base of this symbol is a ribbon with Universitas Bung Karno written on it.The symbol of Universitas Bung Karno means that Universitas Bung Karno develops educational mission based on Bung Karno's Teachings scientifically. The motto of Universitas Bung Karno is Virtuous Science, Scientifical Virtue.
