Trinity is a Church of England Academy, founded to promote the education of students in a community which is positively Christian but welcomes the children of parents of other faiths.When Trinity was opened in 1984, the school quickly established itself as a popular school serving the whole City of Manchester and districts beyond. Its teachers, support staff and students worked to create a school with a distinctive atmosphere, both demanding and caring, which reflected the hopes that parents have for their children. This outlook contributed towards the genuine sense of partnership between home and school. In turn, this has helped to provide feelings of security and structure, happiness and well-being, which are the springboards for good learning.

We make good use of our proximity to the universities, theatres, galleries, museums, the Royal Northern College of Music, the Aquatics Centre and Sports City. These facilities complement the school’s sports centre, sports hall, fitness suite, gymnasium, dance studio, floodlit artificial pitch and floodlit multi-sport courts. Our Sports Centre assists our links with the community. As we have grown, so we have become a centre for community sport. Our buildings are well resourced, enabling us to combine the best of tradition with innovative practice and to prepare our students to take their places as well-rounded individuals in a rapidly changing technological society. We aim to develop a breadth of experience so that, for example, our strong science, technology and mathematics is well balanced by languages, aesthetics, creative subjects and the humanities. Special attention is paid to developing students’ abilities to study independently and co-operatively.

Spiritual understanding and growth play an important part in the life of the school and this is assisted by the variety of backgrounds represented in our annual intake. Valuing people has special meaning in the school. Equally, we value the links we enjoy with the community, near and far. Students joining Trinity from primary school are selected from various religious traditions in given proportions so as to maintain the ethos of the school. At the same time, we encourage and promote a tolerant understanding of one another’s religious beliefs and cultures. The Governors’ statement of aims and objectives may be summarised as educating the whole child. If that is to happen for all the students, there must be a total commitment to the belief that people are intrinsically of equal value; a reflection of the Christian belief that every person has a God-given individuality and is equal in the sight of God.

Our Admissions Policy ensures that we offer places to children of all faiths, not just Christian.

Admissions to the school are the responsibility of the Governors. The Admissions Panel, comprising three of their number and the Head, acts on their behalf. 240 students are admitted each year. The agreement between the Governors and the Diocese of Manchester concerning admissions lays down the procedures to be followed. The Standard Admissions number is 240. The governors’ first priority will be given to children who are or have been in public care and children who have an Education and Health Care Plan in which Trinity is named. In the event of oversubscription, the remaining places will be allocated by the use of the following criteria, applied in order.

The curriculum has been designed to provide a well-balanced education and to develop to the full the potential of each student, giving as wide an opportunity of choice as possible for continuing education and future employment. It is designed to draw on the presence of those of other ethnic origins and the knowledge of their cultures.

The National Curriculum is regarded by the school as a minimum entitlement for all students. The school annually publishes details for each of Years 7, 8 and 9, describing the curriculum for that year. For Years 10 and 11 the relevant examination syllabi are available. examination, but IT is a feature of the work of many courses. Health education is a feature of the education of all students but several courses, including Science, Food Technology and Religious Education, make a significant contribution to its study. Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 sit internal school examinations. In Years 10 and 11 they study courses leading to the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) and vocational qualifications.

All of Years 10 and 11 will study the following curriculum: English (separate Language and Literature); Mathematics; Science (incorporating Physics, Chemistry, and Biology); and Religious Education. They may also choose languages (from French or Spanish); Humanities subjects (History or Geography); aesthetic subjects (Art, Music, Drama and PE), and a range of DT and IT-related subjects. In addition, all students have Physical Education, Citizenship, Work Related Learning and Careers.
