Fukuyama Heisei University was established to realize the ideal education in which humanity is highly respected and the character of each student is wholly cultivated in order to achieve harmonious personality. The university expects and welcomes young people who can bravely pursue the truth and practice what justice tells us to do, have respect for the preciousness of life and the dignity of other human beings and love their own native soils, societies and nations, and have international outlooks enabling them to love the world dearly.
In order to entrust the hopeful creating of tomorrow to the innocent young people with aspiration for the future and lay the foundation of bright future, the main aim of our university is to train the young people to be able human beings. As a private university with its own uniqueness different from other existing universities and a new university widely open to the society, our university should persevere in realizing the spirit of the university establishment.
Five Teachings of Miyuki:
We shall reform the educational situation of today in which excessive emphasis on intellectualism and science has caused the formalization of teaching and education has become blighted. We shall realize the true education, pursuing truth and esteeming justice, fostering benevolent hearts and training ourselves to have firm will, to wholly cultivate the character of every student and make them harmonious human beings with rich cultivation. Our aim is to educate students to be international Japanese with graceful character, ardent spirit and sound mind.
Surrounded by the beautiful natural environment, we shall foster humanity which is in awe of everlasting Nature, partakes of its vigor and has indomitable spirit. Also, as part of the human society ever renewing and developing itself, we shall provide the education of revering the preciousness of human life.
Education should always adjust itself to the developing of the society and human culture and, moreover, play a leading role in the development. Today, many of the universities do not seem to be entitled to regard themselves as "universities" and the society seems morally in confusion.
A university which is to provide true education, by definition, should be a place where the truth is regarded as the most precious among students themselves as well as among teachers and students and all of them are pursuing and trying to realize it. The university should also be a community where the virtue of profound human feelings is valued highly and realization of the merits mentioned above is done harmoniously. Such an educational community can be materialized only by mutual confidence among teachers and students, and we cannot stop realizing that love must be its foundation. Our university should struggle to realize it fully.
What makes it more fruitful to pursue the truth and grope for the justice is to aggressively try by himself or herself practicing what one has found out through his or her own contemplation, especially something new.
Our university refuses to give education whose emphasis is only on pursuing of basic theory or, contrarily, which is focused only on gaining professional skills and qualifications. As our goal is to educate students to be human beings, capable of helping our society improve, who have both highly scientific theory and flexible skillfulness which can meet the needs of the industrial and technological society ever developing itself, we should give education of forming the character of students with strong will of combining theory and practice, knowledge and action, and ability to carry out things, especially creating something new.
