Far Eastern State Technical Fisheries University

On May 9, 1930 USSR’s People's Commissariat of trade ordered the creation of the Institute of fishing industry in Vladivostok, where 120 students would study at four faculties, which were: organizational-economic, commercial-biological, mechanics of the fishing fleet and technological ones. The latter one would be divided into two departments: cannery and technology.

During its long history FESTFU has trained many highly qualified specialists. Among graduates of FESTFU are famous captains, directors of many factories and enterprises, scientists in the field of ichthyology, fisheries and economics as well as the well-known political figures.

FESTFU has really become a source of manpower for fisheries and food industry of Far Eastern region. Graduates of FESTFU are always in demand in the industry.Innovations of scientists of the Far Eastern State Technical Fisheries University are successfully applied in the industry. And FESTFU’s plants on reproduction and cultivation of aquatic organisms are the only educational and research centers in the region where students undertake the internship together with scientists, being engaged in the cultivation of marine fauna.

FESTFU successfully prepares specialists for fisheries and food industry who can speak foreign languages such as Chinese and Korean. Primorsky territory is in constant need for such specialists, considering lots of business here is conducted with foreign countries, especially Asia-Pacific countries.

Special pride of FESTFU is its training sailing ship “Pallada”. In July 2014 the ship has celebrated its 25th anniversary. Over the years “Pallada” has become a symbol not only of the Primorsky territory, but of all Russia.The history of the university is a milestone in the history of formation and development of the fisheries sector of the country. There were many scientific accomplishments and achievements in the past; in the future there will be their real life implementation which requires a lot of efforts, persistence and patience.Students’ activity is focused on learning and rational using of water bioresources, implementation of shell fish, crustaceans, weed and other hydrobionts artificial cultivation technologies, protection and regulation of capture level, observance of legal regulations in fishing and also on studying fish diseases and it cure methods.
