This School is a registered and accredited private multi-campus School established to provide a quality education to the Australian community and, in particular, to Brethren students. The School’s Ethos, Values Statement and Guiding Principles govern the School, and are reflected in a series of policies, procedures and handbooks which have been developed to meet statutory and registration requirements and are to be adhered to in all aspects of the operation of the School and its Campuses. The School is conducted in accordance with the doctrines, and teachings of the Holy Bible as held, believed, taught and practised by the Brethren. All Staff are required to respect the Ethos, Values Statement and Guiding Principles and not influence, or seek to influence, students as to these doctrines, tenets and teachings.
At this School, students are encouraged to develop their full potential and acquire the discipline of learning how to learn, while upholding Christian teachings and beliefs. The truth and authority of the Holy Bible and strong family values underpin the commitment of the School to provide quality in every facet of education - curriculum, teachers, facilities, management and discipline - in a safe and caring environment.
Agnew is a registered private school providing education recognised by the Government but free of detrimental influences that exist in society. Our mission is to ensure that our students develop the understanding, skills, knowledge and attitudes which are not only compatible with their beliefs, but will also enable them to fulfil their potential and contribute to their community and the community at large. The School provides a balanced curriculum which promotes personal development and prepares students for increasing independence and responsibility. Students are guided to make good curriculum choices to ensure an appropriate level of academic rigour in areas that they are interested in and will provide a sense of achievement.
The curriculum is designed to provide opportunities for students of varied abilities. The implementation of the National Curriculum has been a further opportunity to ensure we provide extensive differentiation and personalised pedagogy, with innovative spaces and methods of delivery. Every student, regardless of ability, will be provided with the opportunity to stretch to their full potential.
Students engage in a wide range of sporting and physical activities. Field studies and excursions support classroom delivery and are designed as an enhancement programme. Being a multi campus school provides opportunities for combined excursions and sports days.
Agnew School follows the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) and Independent School Queensland (ISQ) Curriculum Guidelines. Generally, our students complete their early primary years in a government primary school, then begin Agnew in Year 3 where they are taught in the six Key Learning Areas as defined by the QCAA.
In Agnew Primary schools, much resource is committed to determining what ability a student has, given that they have come from a diverse range of schools prior to Agnew School. This assessment process is used to plan the next teaching and learning steps, whether it may be learning assistance or providing for students that are able to assess the program at a more advanced level. Students are regularly assessed and tracked using national literacy and numeracy standards, ensuring ongoing support and development through differentiated programs.
Our classes are small and of mixed ability therefore the movement in teaching practice from teacher directed to teacher as facilitator/guide fits well with our school structurally and with our goal for developing self-directed learners with the skills, knowledge, attitudes and values for lifelong learning.
Year 7-10 secondary courses are based on the Australian Curricilum and the QCAA guidelines. The program follows a two year rotation in most subjects. Year 7 and 8 students experience a full range of learning areas and subjects with electives in Year 9 in preparation for senior study. The Agnew School Year 11 and 12 curriculum follows QCAA senior secondary syllabuses offfering a wide range of both Authority subjects and Authority registered subjects.
All students study six subjects and have the opportunity to achieve an OP and a QCE. Alternative pathways are offered for students seeking employment skills. Because of our geographical spread, many senior courses are available via video conference to offer the widest possible range of subjects to all students across all four campuses.
To promote this, Agnew works with Glenvale who has structured its own Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to provide courses which encourage students to continue the development of the knowledge and skills they have obtained in their secondary years. This information, along with programs from other tertiary providers assists students wishing to make informed choices about their future.
