RAS offers an outstanding American education with top-notch international teachers. Our teaching staff holds teaching degrees from the US, Canada, and the UK. Professional development days are embedded into the school calendar in order for teachers to work together to keep abreast of best educational practices.

Our goal at RAS is to educate the whole child through inquiry-based learning. This includes a strong co-curricular program that offers a variety of activities to appeal to the interests of all students, such as sports, dance, music, and art. Our curriculum follows the Common Core Standards for Math and Language Arts, Next Generation Standards for Science, and the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) for Social Studies.

What really sets us apart are our four General Learning Outcomes (GLOs): problem solving/thinking skills, communication skills, character/interpersonal skills, and organization/research skills. These 4 GLOs are the backbone of both our educational and co-curricular programs and are assessed throughout the year in all areas. Important in all aspects of life, these four skills bridge the academic world to the real world.

RAS is one of the premier educational facilities in Southeast Asia. This includes state of the art athletic facilities including two gymnasiums, an Olympic-size swimming pool, learning pool, tennis courts, two soccer pitches, a track, and a baseball field. The fine Arts Center consists of a 750-person auditorium, black-box theater, practice rooms, and classrooms. Our custom-designed science labs are complimented with a green house and planetarium. The cafeteria offers nutritional choices for snacks and lunches because we understand the relationship between good nutrition and increased student learning.

Raffles American School is a learning community that empowers students to achieve their academic and life potential. RAS serves students Pre-K through 12th grade. Our rigorous and rich academic and co-curricular programs encourage student growth through a learning outcome approach, acknowledging multiple types of intelligence and paths to learning. We facilitate student success through collaboration with parents, a balanced focus on intellectual, emotional, physical, and social progress, and a profound belief that all students can learn.

At every grade level and in every subject area, students will be given the opportunity to be exposed, to practice, and to be given feedback on their demonstration of our General Learning Outcomes. The American Curriculum is a rigorous, standards-based system that aims to educate the whole child for the successful realization of dreams and goals.

We understand that choosing the best school for your child/ren is an important decision for your family. At RAS, we take great pride in our mission to empower students to achieve their full potential. As an accredited American school with a holistic mission, we provide students with the opportunity to grow academically, creatively, socially and emotionally. With a staff of highly qualified teachers, a rich curricular and co-curricular environment, and an internationally diverse student body, RAS provides students with the resources they need to gain valuable 21st century skills in a supportive learning environment. As you take the opportunity to get to know RAS through our website and our admissions process, meet our staff and consider the needs of your family, we believe you will find RAS a valuable choice for your child’s future.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ As a British citizen born and raised in the UK, my knowledge of education has always been rooted in the British curriculum. When we first moved to Malaysia, we naturally enrolled our daughter into a well-known British school. At the time, it seemed the sensible choice: familiar curriculum, large student body, and the highest fees. However, after three years, we came to see that with her athletic commitments not fitting into the school schedule, alongside other issues, it was no longer the right environment for her. Our journey with Raffles American School has been positive from the very beginning. From the first interaction with Karran and the admissions team, we were struck by the professionalism, the seamless tour, and the thoughtful follow-up. During the tour we were amazed by the facilities—many of which we never imagined a school could offer. For children like ours, passionate about sport and the arts, it felt like a dream: two football fields, a full athletics track, an Olympic-sized saltwater swimming pool, four tennis courts, an auditorium, a dance studio, and a black box theatre. Meeting Superintendent Dr Alex was refreshing and immediately reminded us of our previous experiences in Qatar, where education providers are world-class. The prescience of top leadership within the school environment is something we truly value, and it touched our hearts to know that he takes the time to welcome children personally, addressing them by name. Equally, the daily drop-off has become a joy to witness. Mr Elliott is consistently there to greet the students each morning, and it makes such an impact for young children to feel acknowledged, seen, and heard by leadership. These small but powerful gestures create a culture where children feel genuinely cared for. Karran also gave us complete reassurance about the academic side, carefully explaining how the American AP curriculum translates seamlessly into university opportunities across the UK, Australia, America, and Singapore. Her knowledge and guidance gave us real confidence about our children’s academic future. Before starting, both our children underwent MAP testing, which gave us a clear understanding of their academic levels during the transition from British to American curriculum. We are thrilled with how the school has used this information—not only tailoring learning to suit them but also giving access to platforms they genuinely enjoy using. These resources are fun, interactive, and help them gain mastery in subjects they find tricky; which was to be expected after the curriculum change but has had little to no negative impact thanks to the wonderful support and tools in place. Another highlight for us as parents has been the excellent communication through the school app. It allows us to remain closely connected to their daily lives, see what they are working on, and naturally opens conversations at home about what they are learning and experiencing. Since joining, our children have made wonderful friendships, and it is clear that the students at Raffles possess qualities we wish for our children to be surrounded by: focus, kindness, humility, and warmth. The culture of the school is one of genuine inclusivity. For our daughter, re-entering Grade 5, this has been particularly important—an age where school environments are not always welcoming. At Raffles, we have seen her embraced, encouraged, and inspired by peers who uplift one another. To any parents considering schools in Johor, I would say this: apprehensions about the American curriculum are not warranted. It is rigorous, transferable, and opens doors to the very best universities worldwide. The diversity of the student body is increasing rapidly, and under the guidance of the new leadership team, we are seeing the school improve before our very eyes. We are particularly excited about the development of elite sports provisions, with student athlete programmes for golf and tennis now being rolled out. As a family, we are very proud to be partnering with the school on tennis—something we feel is only possible because of the incredible work, vision, and positive experience we’ve had at Raffles. We feel deeply grateful to be part of the Raffles American School community. Both of our children are happier, more confident, and thriving in an environment where they are valued and supported. It has been a refreshing change, and we look forward to watching them continue to flourish here.

An excellent school. The American education curriculum is interactive between teacher and students and the learning is extremely enjoyable for the students without compromising on the high quality and standard of education as well as discipline. The school maintains high-standards across the board from academics and athletics to security and cleanliness. The teachers are professional and dedicated. The management, comprising very qualified and experienced individuals, are very hands-on, responsible and responsive. My children absolutely enjoy going to this school, so much so that on some days they prefer being in school than on holiday.
