Belmont Christian College is a Pre School to Year 12 College based in beautiful Lake Macquarie. Founded in 1982, Belmont Christian College is a ministry of Belmont Baptist Church and is an active member of the local community. Based on the historic BHP John Darling coal mine, the College facilities are well maintained and contain a lot of history.
From the Christ-centred, biblically based curriculum, to the employment of dedicated Christian staff and the challenge of “looking to the interests of others” with our mission focus, Belmont Christian College has a holistic, caring and nurturing approach to meeting the needs of the precious children in our care.
Belmont Christian College is a place where parents are encouraged to be involved, a place where the staff see their role not as a job but as a calling to a ministry, a place where each child is given the individual attention they need to blossom and grow. This is a place where we recognise that life is a journey and we are about preparing children for not only their life in this world but also for eternity.
Belmont Christian College is a welcoming Christian community. We seek to provide opportunities to enable all students to grow into well-balanced young adults with a love of learning and a love of Jesus Christ. Regardless of their particular area of strength or interest we plan to provide a facility, an enthusiastic Christian teacher, a program and an overall positive culture of achievement and faith which allows students to pursue their passion. This helps give them a direction for life after school, not only in careers, tertiary courses and spiritual pursuits, but also in their confidence and self-esteem socially, in interests, hobbies and service.
The College is a Preschool (3 year olds), PREP (4 year olds) to Year 12, independent, co-educational day school, set on 7.5 hectares in Belmont North, a lakeside suburb of Lake Macquarie near Newcastle. BCC has a well-developed curriculum across all subject areas and year-levels, which is continually being improved to ensure all students are fully engaged throughout their College life. There are many highlights of our extra-curricular program from a range of sporting opportunities to music, dance, drama, design, marine studies and IT. The pastoral care of students and the encouragement of them to “look to the interests of others” in service and mission opportunities, challenges their spiritual and character development.
Belmont Christian College is a registered school, teaching a program based on NSW NESA syllabus. The NSW curriculum has been written in Stages and so it naturally follows that students be taught in Stages in accordance with the syllabus documents. Further to this, the Primary School places a high emphasis on the teaching rigor of Literacy and Numeracy in the first two sessions of each school day and this will continue to be the focus where these subjects will be taught with rigor and intention. This approach gives opportunity for extension and enrichment in these and other subject areas whereby students may move in and out of learning groups dependent of their level of ability.
Our Primary School students enjoy a wide variety of learning experiences that cover the Key Learning Areas that are taught in all NSW schools, including: Creative Arts: Music, Dance and Visual Arts; English, Mathematics, Science, Geography, History, Personal Development, Health and Physical Education. In addition, Biblical Studies and a Devotions segment feature as part of each Stages' program. They provide the students with an opportunity to share, worship, pray and learn from God's Word, together. In addition, like the rest of the College, the Primary School strongly focusses on the integration of Information Technologies throughout all Key Learning Areas. Throughout the day, the children are encouraged to respond to all that they learn, and the world around them, from a Christian world-view.
The College offers an outstanding program of academic, vocational, sporting, cultural and social experiences. As well, we intentionally integrate into all facets of College life distinct opportunities for a developing understanding of a Christian worldview and for spiritual growth. Students in the Secondary School have access to:
Our highly experienced staff effectively deliver a pattern of study for our students focused on preparing them to be people who have a strong sense of self-respect and self-discipline, empathy, an ability to communicate effectively, to think critically and to exercise problem solving skills.
