Makassar Independent School

The Makassar Independent School (MIS) operates as the only registered international school in Sulawesi. We offer international-standard education from preschool and kindergarten through to primary and secondary, based on he UK national curriculum and eventually leading to the widely-respected and internationally-recognised IGCSE and International A level qualifications.

Centrally located in a new purpose-built building close to Makassar's picturesque Pantai Losari seafront, the school's facilities include several large and air-conditioned classrooms, a computer and science laboratory, a large multi-purpose sports hall, a well-equipped kindergarten and an English language Library.

Our students study a wide and balanced range of subjects in a total English language environment and in small classes. Our subject teachers are qualified and experienced native speakers from all over the English speaking world, including the UK, US, and Australia

Our academic core timetable of Maths, English, Science, Social Science and IT is supplemented by a variety of non-core creative subjects and by extra-curricular activities, clubs and field trips. For Kindergarten, our reading and writing program follows the respected Jolly Phonics curriculum used in many UK state schools.

Makassar International is a welcoming place where students are educated and nurtured by highly trained teachers and staff. Students at MIS are taught to think logically, independently and creatively and to communicate and collaborate with their peers. The elementary school serves students from pre-school through the 6th grade.  Secondary school serves students from 7th grade to upper high school.

We value holistic education and offer activities for students to explore varying interests and develop skills in a wide range of disciplines. We have special classes in music, visual arts, physical education, library/media, and technology to enrich our core curriculum.

Our mission is to prepare young people to be prepared for their higher education needs by providing them educational experiences that will help them grow to reach their full potential. We recognize that not all students learn in the same way and structure our programs and instruction to meet the varying needs of each child.  In addition, we now have the IGCSE program for 14-16 year olds, and you can read about this important program in this site.
