Abha, Saudi Arabia: Work will be starting in a few days on the largest medical college in the Middle East at King Khaled University in Abha, as part of its University City project in Abha’s Alfaraa area.
More than 24 fully-equipped departments of medicine, pharmacology, dentistry, and applied medical science will be built, along with a conference center, central library and classrooms.
This is part of the ongoing development projects in the University City which will take place in six phases. The first two phases have been awarded to companies.
More than 25 agencies participated in an international competition held to design the University City project.
A university report stated Friday that a number of infrastructure projects have been completed, including two central service complexes consisting of water reservoirs, generators, transformers, central air-conditioning, and a 17-kilometer-long service tunnel linking service complexes with all of the university’s buildings. The projects were executed by local companies, it added.
The report said the work is continuing on the construction of 17 buildings for 13 non-medical faculties. The medical city will also include an 800-bed hospital which was awarded to a company out of 17 local and international companies that competed for it, the report added.
