Grangetown Primary School

Our children are at the centre of everything we do and this was reflected in our last ESTYN inspection report (2012), when inspectors stated that the school is a fully inclusive community and all pupils are valued and treated equally. Our school motto is, ‘Achieve our Best. Celebrate Success’.

We encourage our children to give of their best academically, socially and through a range of extra-curricular activities. By showing that we expect the best, the children give of their best and so reach their full potential.

We provide a rich, broad and balanced curriculum, focusing on the development of skills, which can be applied in a range of contexts. Our children’s views and ideas are sought at every opportunity, as we attach a great deal of importance to developing confident children who can contribute fully to the life of the school. We work hard to develop self-assurance, self-belief and independence.

As parents and carers, you have a vital role to play in the education of your child. We aim to keep you fully informed of any developments. Regular contact is positively encouraged – if you have any worries or questions - come and talk to us! We send home a newsletter each month and hold annual induction meetings with parents and two formal parents’ evenings a year.

We are fortunate to have a very supportive Governing Body who are willing to ask challenging questions on the children’s behalf. This promotes the school’s philosophy of regular and rigorous self-evaluation supporting school improvement in order to provide the very best education for all the children. Grangetown Primary School is a multi-cultural community. We include and respect everyone - celebrating our differences and sameness. Parents, governors, staff and children work together to ensure everyone is supported on their path to personal excellence.

Our learners must feel physically and emotionally safe, fit and happy as these are essential precursors to learning. In our multi-lingual school, we strive to provide our children with the words to express their emotions, thoughts and ideas. Possessing an enquiring mind, along with being literate, numerate and technologically able is essential, if our learners are to prosper in a rapidly changing world.

Valuing the Arts and creativity, along with a passionate belief in the principles of democracy, tolerance, honesty and kindness is essential, if the world is to thrive. Our children are the future citizens and guardians of the world, and so we teach them to understand they have responsibilities and rights and their choices must be informed and ethical. We work hard, alone and together, to think and solve problems. Our greatest pleasure comes in supporting each other to achieve personal goals.
