Our overall aim is to enhance the health of the people of Wales and the wider world. Our research and clinical innovation is at the cutting edge, inspiring our teaching, informing national policy and practice and enabling the translation of research for the patient and public benefit throughout Cardiff, Wales and beyond.

Our student satisfaction rate is at an all time high of 97% from the 2016 National Student Survey (NSS), making us joint 3rd in the country. Our medical students say that we are unique because of our 'real focus on the patient', the 'opportunity to work with teachers and researchers who are world experts', and being able to develop an 'excellent insight into what life as a doctor will be like'.

Our vision is for excellence in all that we do. Our collaboration and innovation will always focus on patient need. Research will be driven by creativity and curiosity, with the desire to address unmet clinical and healthcare needs. Our educational programmes will inspire our students and staff.

We are committed to ensuring equality and diversity in our teaching and research. We currently hold the Athena SWAN Bronze award which recognises our commitment to advancing women's careers in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM).

All teaching staff receive equality and diversity training on commencement of their role, but bespoke courses are arranged with HR for specific staff members eg admissions tutors and senior staff. We aim to ensure that all teaching staff are aware of and fully understand issues relating to equality and diversity.

We actively seek the views of students through staff/student panels and we conduct anonymous surveys to identify areas for improvement, including equality-related issues. We continually strive to improve the student experience and ensure that students are fully supported through their studies. The views obtained are used to formulate actions to tackle areas for improvement.
