Welcome to the Infant pages of St Christopher’s School website. We are very proud of our School and our fabulous pupils and, if you are able to visit us, you will be able to experience first-hand, a warm and welcoming environment, full of happy, confident children.
Every week there is something exciting happening in the School: from Victorian Day to Global Citizen Day, from Pirate Week to a visit to the Wildlife Park, all contributing to making our school a very special place in which to learn.
Our outstanding team of teaching and support staff set each child on their journey to develop the skills of lifelong learning and enable all to realise their full potential. We ensure the children are central to the learning process and that they share in our high expectations of them, both academically and socially, as we aim to develop pupils who are Autonomous Learners, Competent Individuals and Global Citizens who have an understanding of themselves, of others and of our world.
Support from parents is key to our success and we work hard to establish open communication and form partnerships that will last throughout your child’s time at St Christopher’s.
We are fortunate to have World Class facilities in which to learn and play and our strive for continuous improvement means that we are always looking at ways of improving the learning experience for the children, whether through the implementation of innovative teaching methods or the enhancement of our physical resources.
Our web pages are updated regularly and we encourage you to also read our online newsletters to get a flavour of our busy school. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
St Christopher’s Nursery provides a stimulating, caring and nurturing environment which meets each child’s needs as an individual. What makes St Christopher’s Nursery a special place to be, is the happy, engaging and fun learning atmosphere. Our Nursery is bright and spacious with cozy classrooms and exciting corners in which to play and learn. Our pupils benefit from a stimulating, integrated indoor-outdoor environment, which promotes a child’s independence, decision-making and problem solving. Every child has space and time to play and discover in the classroom, well-resourced ‘Activity Street’, playground and enclosed garden and outdoor play area. When your child joins our Nursery they will receive all the care and attention they need. Our Nursery pupils learn through a play-based, thematic approach, utilising a range of interesting and creative teaching methods. They have freedom to explore, investigate, discover, imagine, and to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding through self-chosen activities and adult-led experiences. Our pupils enjoy a fabulous start to their St Christopher’s learning journey and develop a healthy approach to life and learning. The curriculum in our Nursery is based around the seven areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS);
Early phonics skills are developed through the Jolly Phonics programme and pupils are introduced to pre-reading skills through the Oxford Reading Tree scheme. Early number concepts are developed through Numicon, which builds a deep understanding of number and number relationships, developing pupils’ fluency, reasoning and problem-solving.
Our Nursery pupils take an active part in community service projects and have strong links with Regional Institute of Active Learning (RIA) School. Our pupils donate new toys for the pupils on the oncology ward at Salmaniya hospital and clothes they have grown out of to needy families in Bahrain. Pupils from RIA and Bahrain Mobility Schools also visit our Nursery to play with us.
Highlights of the year include a Teddy Bears Picnic, Sports Day and Splash Day. Trips to Yellow Submarine and the theatre enhance the curriculum topics. In Nursery, special guest visitors include the Community Police, Fire Brigade and an ice cream van!
