Salem Academy

Since 1772, Salem Academy has provided girls in grades 9-12 an outstanding college preparatory education. Our beautiful grounds are adjacent to Salem College, and many of our seniors take classes on the college campus during their senior year. We share a beautiful Fine Arts Center and state of the art Athletic Complex with the College; we also offer dual enrollment classes on our own campus so that students may receive college credit from teachers in their own academic community. As you can guess, we do not succumb to the boundaries of a traditional independent school.

Now in its third century of sustaining a community in which girls learn best, Salem Academy remains dedicated to fostering the intellectual, spiritual, social, and physical growth of young women. Founded in 1772, Salem Academy flourishes today as an independent, college-preparatory school that celebrates its diversity and affirms each student’s uniqueness.

The Salem Academy learning specialist works closely with students who have documented needs for learning accommodations and puts formal plans in place to address these needs. The learning specialist also assists teachers in implementing accommodations and works with faculty to identify struggling learners so that support and modifications can be provided if needed. In addition, the learning specialist serves as the point person for SAT and ACT special requests.

The Salem Academy Learning Center is located in our beautiful Ann Stone Hanes Library, offering a collaborative workspace, a comfortable and confidential environment, and a central location that most students visit on a daily basis. Each Salem student is encouraged to visit the Learning Center for support in time management, organization, note-taking, and study skills. Through academic coaching with the learning specialist and peer tutoring, students develop the strategies needed to reach their academic potential.
