Penarlag Primary School was officially opened in 1976. We are part of the Flintshire Local Education Authority and the building is situated on the edge of a residential area in the small town of Ewloe. Our aims of the school are detailed in our vision and mission statement: Learning, sharing and growing together.

We are a primary school situated just outside the village of Ewloe and we have approximately two hundred and twenty pupils from Nursery to Year 6. We have one class per year group. Our staff our experienced and dedicated to the school and work hard to ensure pupils enjoy learning and do their best.

We pride ourselves in having a close, happy, caring and welcoming school community where all pupils know each other and know all the staff, and where staff know all the parents of pupils. We take an interest in all our pupils and am available to meet with parents if they have any concerns. Parents are very welcome in our school . We understand the importance of working in partnership with parents to progress their child's learning. We hold a range of events and open days for parents throughout the school year. We also welcome parent volunteers in school.

The ‘hidden curriculum’ or what the children learn from the way they are treated and expected to behave. We aim to teach children to grow into positive, responsible people who can work and co-operate with others while developing knowledge and skills, so that they can achieve their potential.

Our school curriculum is underpinned by our school vision and mission statement. The curriculum is enhanced by day and residential trips. All pupils attend day trips and each Junior class participates in a residential trip, ranging from one night for Year 3 children to four nights for Year 6 children. No charge will be made for education provided during set school hours; however when necessary parents will be asked to make a voluntary contribution towards the cost of an activity – if sufficient funds are not forthcoming then the activity may be cancelled.

Vision statement:

Working together, learning for life and striving for excellence

Mission Statement:

  • Pupils are our priority. Their health, well being and happiness are central to our daily work.
  • Everyone is important. Giving respect for others and for themselves, the children will develop an attitude that will help them to be successful in adulthood and lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.
  • Natural enthusiasm to learn is fostered, which values the contributions of each member of the school community. We aim to lead the children towards self motivation, self discipline , perseverance to become ambitious capable learners who are ready to learn throughout their lives.
  • All are welcomed and respected in our school. Home and school must work together to meet individual needs. We see ourselves as a growing community to ensure our pupils are ready to play a full part in life and work.
  • Range of opportunities and experiences broaden horizons for all.
  • Learning is our main purpose. We believe we can maximise learning by our teaching, including practical and fun activities and by setting challenging and meaningful targets. Children are encouraged to become independent learners who think creatively and reflectively.
  • Achievement of all members of the school community is recognised, shared and celebrated.
  • Generate an environment which is caring, stimulating and challenging.
