In 1993, Rabbi Kenneth Brander, the rabbi of the Boca Raton Synagogue, held discussions with the communal leadership of South Palm Beach County about the creation of the first yeshiva high school between North Miami Beach and Atlanta. In 1996, he organized The Committee to Form a Yeshiva High School, and in 1997 it hired Rabbi Perry Tirschwell to create the school. The school opened its doors to 41 ninth and tenth graders in September 1998, and has grown quickly in its short history. Today, Katz Yeshiva High School of South Florida has more than 375 students in grades nine through twelve. In the beginning, KYHS was located on the campus of the Boca Raton Synagogue. We are now in our permanent home, a sprawling 60,000 square foot building with vast fields and a magnificent gym located on the campus of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County.
Our students excel in Judaic Studies and in General Studies, and upon graduation they continue their education at the finest yeshivot, seminaries, and universities at which they continue to be engaged, challenged, and inspired. We are proud of the fact that over 90% of our graduates spend at least one year of study in Israel before continuing their studies in college.
Every day at KYHS is another step in an exciting journey of growth and development. Personally, we love walking into the building every morning and feeling the energy of committed young men and women who love their school. I am so proud of our students; they work hard and play hard. Whether learning Gemara or Tanakh, whether studying Shakespeare or Physics, our students are fully invested and fully engaged. Whether on the athletic field or in any of the myriad co-curricular activities, our students put their heart and soul into spreading school spirit.
Katz Yeshiva High School of South Florida serves the local Jewish communities. All members of our school community are actively engaged in the lifelong process of learning and character development. Toward that end we strive to:
Inspire our students to make a lifelong commitment to Jewish values, learning, and observance, and to view all disciplines and pursuits through the prism of Torah.
Challenge our students with an excellent Judaic and General Studies program that engages the heart and mind, builds character, and develops knowledgeable and thoughtful young men and women who will continue the journey of learning.
