Perkiomen is independent, coed, boarding & day school for students in grades 6-12, PG. The Perkiomen community inspires students to risk becoming their best. Perkiomen was originally a coeducational institution. In 1916, however, Trustees decided to change the name to Perkiomen School and gradually phase out the presence of female students. The school successfully operated as an all-boys school for 47 years, but with societal changes affecting the United States during the Vietnam era, the Trustees voted to accept female day student girls in 1969 with boarding girls enrolled in 1971. It has remained coeducational in the time since.
Every Perkiomen student is required to complete six community service hours per year in order to graduate. Many students choose to volunteer more than the required number. There are opportunities to get involved in on campus projects and numerous opportunities in the surrounding community – many of which are organized by the Student Life department! Our philosophy:
Perkiomen School offers a superb college preparatory education—from a middle school experience that nurtures independent inquiry, to the latest instructional technology applied in innovative ways. At Perkiomen, we believe that to learn and grow into responsible citizens of the world requires a certain kind of risk, a willingness to face new challenges. Take Mandarin Chinese, try out for a sport you have never played before, or make yourself at home in the Innovation Center. Of course, you will make a mistake or two. Don't be afraid to fail...just be sure you learn from the experience.
Perkiomen has a three-member college counseling office, which helps students navigate the college application and search process. The defining strength of this program is the truly exceptional degree of personal attention the school’s counselors are able to provide to each student.
One of Perkiomen’s greatest strengths is its intimate scale. Perkiomen is a campus where every student, teacher, and staff member knows everyone else. At Perkiomen, you will be understood and appreciated—in class and beyond, not just as a student, but as a complete person. As you move through your personal journey here, you will be surrounded by mentors, guides, and friends. You will be part of classes, dorms, teams, and a school community that all have the feeling of family.
