Ysgol Bontnewydd serves the village of Bontnewydd and the neighbouring rural area, including the villages of Caeathro and Llanfaglan. Pupils also travel from outside the school’s natural catchment-area. The school serves a widely spread linguistically and socially diverse community. No effort is spared to ensure that every pupil feels part of the school family.

The current school opened in 1976, but education has been provided on the premises for over a century. Use is still occasionally made of the Old School, which accomodates the Nursery School.

The current building has been planned as partly open plan and consists of eight purpose built classes as well as a hall, play area and green land. The Gwyrfai Unit was opened in 2000, that serves as a satellite unit for Ysgol Pendalar and a Therapy Unit was opened in 2009. The school received an ESTYN inspection in December 2009. An excellent Report was received in all of the inspection fields. A copy of the Report can be obtained from the school, or click here for an on-line version.

We stress as staff and Governors that education is a partnership between the school and the home. We are proud of the close relationship we have as a school with our parents and we look forward to welcoming and working with you.
