Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen reflects the natural Welsh environment of the local community, but with an emphasis on developing the bilingualism of our pupils. At present there are some 400 pupils in the school, mainly from Bethesda and the surrounding villages which make up Dyffryn Ogwen. We have 25 teachers and 12 support staff.
We aim to support pupils in achieving their potential across a range of academic and vocational subjects, as well as focusing on their literacy and numeracy development. Most subjects use Information Technology, and we have invested substantially in this area. We are proud of the fact that all our students leave Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen with qualifications in these important skills. We want all our students to leave school armed with the ability to compete in the world of work, further education and higher education.
The school is very well resourced, and has access to Plas Ffrancon Leisure Centre on a daily basis. We take pride in our school and the environment in which it is situated. It is doubtful if any other secondary school in Wales in situated in such remarkable natural surroundings.
The pupils play a key role in creating a welcoming environment that is positive and pleasing for learning in the community of this school. Each one has his/her part to play to ensure that there is a civilised, tolerant and active community based on respect to all members. Ensuring the best conditions for learning is a high priority at this school. We have high expectations of each pupil here at Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen. The aim is to ensure that every learner fosters the appropriate skills and ascertains knowledge that underpins good learning. We are anxious that every pupil is happy, safe and proud of his/her school. We promote and foster self-discipline and appropriate respect to authority amongst the pupils.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen community and family in the near future. The school is inclusive and welcoming where every individual pupil is respected and valued; our aim is to challenge all individuals to be ambitious and enterprising learners.
We are extremely proud to be serving the Dyffryn Ogwen community developing bilingual citizens who are proud of their local and national heritage. Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen is also a close-knit community in itself, with staff and pupils getting to know each other as key to the pupils' personal development.
We foster high standards of behaviour, dress and courtesy offering a supportive and caring environment where everyone will respect the needs and rights of others, as valued members of society. Pupils are encouraged to make measured and wise decisions about their lifestyle.
We have special teams that work closely with pupils of certain years, and constant contact with families on the journey. Positive partnerships between pupils, home and school are key to individual success.
