Bachelor of Advanced Science with a specialisation in Statistics
Statistics as a discipline is the development and application of methods for collecting, analysing and interpreting data. It is the science of learning from data, or converting data into knowledge. One of the aims of statistics is to produce the 'best' information from available data by reducing uncertainty in decision-making. It also aims to detect patterns in the data, and design experiments and other data collection methods to help decision-making by estimating the present and/or predicting the future.
Statistics is an essential tool for making informed decisions in all areas of business and government. It applies to many disciplines, from the physical and social sciences to the humanities. Statisticians may work by themselves, but they usually work in a team. This could include research specialists, and clerical or computing staff who collect and analyse data.
As part of this course, you will benefit from special advanced units in statistics that are not available to other students. Many students will go on to further Postgraduate studies in statistics.
