This is a general translation course between Arabic and English. Main principles and foundations are laid down in this course to help trainees forge their career in general translation. The same rules that are taught here can apply to a variety of specialized disciplines as well and for different purposes.

This course sheds light on syntactic problems in translation and how they can be solved based on the assumption that a correct translation cannot be rendered without a correct use of grammar.

Who Should Attend?

Any individual mastering written English and Arabic languages and seeking to have general knowledge of the industry of translation

By the end of this course you will be able to

  • demonstrate competency in translating documents
  • use the professional and ethical standards required for professional translators
  • demonstrate proficiency in the use and application of different translation tools used in the field (such as dictionaries, software, internet search, etc…)

Day 5 Time management and mental processing
Day 6 First TestDiscussion of test results
Day 7 Translation of Pronouns/past participle/gerunds/ Translation of Adjectives/ Tenses/ conditional sentences
Day 8 Translation of Word Classes/Articles/Sentence Connectors
Day 9 Conclusions and exercises
Day 10 Translation of synonymy/polysemy/monosemy/collocations
Day 11 Translation of fixed phrases/ metaphors/Culture/ Translation of proper names
Day 12 Second TestDiscussion of test results

Material given during the training: Compiled translated material related to the course.

Before the course

Each delegate will be asked to complete a Pre-Course Assessment Form to determine their current level and objectives for attending the course. The content of such Form will be used by the trainer only to give tailored training that is focused on each group of delegates.

At the end of the course

Each delegate will be asked to complete an Individual Development Plan and Vocational Completion Certificate.
