South Georgia State College, a state college of the University System of Georgia, is a multi-campus, student-centered institution offering high-quality associate and select baccalaureate degree programs. The institution provides innovative teaching and learning experiences, a rich array of student activities and athletic programs, access to unique ecological sites, and residential options to create a diverse, globally-focused, and supportive learning environment.

SGSC is a multi-site, fully accredited college and member of the University System of Georgia, with a main campus in Douglas, an additional campus in Waycross, and two entry programs in Valdosta and Americus. With a strong academic program, a rich heritage of athletics and engaging student activities, SGSC provides a complete college experience that is affordable, accessible, welcoming, and safe.

South Georgia State College offers over 20 associate degree pathways that transfer seamlessly to four-year institutions as well as three bachelor’s degrees. We take pride in the close relationships our students have with faculty and staff who care about each and every student, and we strive to ensure that each one benefits from the individual attention given by faculty members who are highly qualified in their fields.

Our athletic teams are nationally recognized and academically successful. Students can participate in men’s basketball, baseball, softball, women’s soccer, men’s and women’s swimming, and cross country. SGSC is committed to assisting each student athlete in attaining a high level of academic excellence. The campus community is always invited to cheer for their favorite Hawks team!

SGSC offers an array of free student services including financial aid, tutoring, academic advising, and career and transition counseling. Students are also encouraged to get involved in student life by participating in Student Government Association (SGA), Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society, Georgia Association of Nursing (GANS), as well as many other clubs and activities.

Realize your dream. South Georgia State College was created by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia on January 8, 2013 from the consolidation of South Georgia College in Douglas, Ga. and Waycross College in Waycross, Ga.

SGSC currently offers three bachelor's degrees - the Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences (BSBS), the Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) and the Bachelor of Science in Management (BSM). Associate degrees are also offered in 20 transfer pathways of study. Now known as a state college within the University System of Georgia, the potential exists for SGSC to offer additional baccalaureate degrees in the future.

SGSC faculty are credentialed and meet SACSCOC requirements to teach in their respective field. There are no graduate assistants teaching classes at South Georgia State College. The average class size is 26, which allows faculty to provide personal attention and support for each student as needed.

The tree-lined Douglas campus features 190 landscaped acres and includes a blend of well-maintained classroom and residential space with open green areas suitable for student gatherings. The Waycross campus features 150 acres of wooded land and includes three academic buildings, two lakes, and a walking trail. Both campuses have facilities which are home to the SGSC Hawks athletic teams. SGSC also has instructional sites in Americus and Valdosta.

The role of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness at South Georgia State College is to demonstrate how well the College succeeds in accomplishing its mission and meeting its goals. Faculty and administrators develop mission statements for each academic program and administrative unit that are derived from the College’s mission statement.

They we define the program and learning outcomes they believe are most appropriate and report them in accordance with the Institutional Effectiveness Cycle at SGSC. These outcomes are assessed to determine the extent to which they were achieved in the planning year. Finally, the assessment results are used as the basis for making changes for continuous improvements in the academic and administrative programs.
