At Argosy University, our passion is teaching and learning. We develop professional competence, provide opportunity for personal growth, and foster interpersonal effectiveness. Students succeed because our university community engages and supports them.
Built on a diverse and rich academic foundation, Argosy University was formed in 2001 with the merging of three separate academic institutions—the American Schools of Professional Psychology, the University of Sarasota, and the Medical Institute of Minnesota.
At Argosy University, we’re proud to support one of the largest communities of graduate students in the nation as well as an active, thriving undergraduate community. This diversity will ultimately strengthen the professions they enter and improve the services they provide to their clients and customers.
We believe in a responsive learning-centered process that enables each student to realize his or her own potential. We believe in offering an environment that emphasizes care, concern and mutual respect for the students as both individuals and as professionals.
We believe in education that integrates practical learning experiences and outcomes that reflect the skills and competencies of the professions Argosy University serves; those required by the employers of Argosy University’s graduates. We believe our faculty must contribute professional expertise as well as scholarship to the learning process.
We believe that people, students, faculty, staff, and those in the communities we serve deserve to be treated in a manner that reflects mutual respect and a high regard for the other person. We believe that all should be treated with a personal caring attitude that reflects respect and positive regard.
The Illinois School of Professional Psychology, the first of the American Schools of Professional Psychology, was founded in the 1976 by a group of psychologists, educators, and other professionals who called for a clinical psychology degree that emphasized teaching and practical training over the research-oriented approach of the traditional PhD degree. This effort ultimately led to the creation of the Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) degree, which we still offer today.
The third school, the Medical Institute of Minnesota, brought to the table its own rich heritage, which began when it was established in 1961 in response to the emerging needs of the medical community, with the goal of preparing skilled allied healthcare personnel for careers in the booming medical technology fields.
Argosy University supports one of the largest graduate student communities in the nation. We offer 27 campus locations across the United States as well as a number of degree programs online. At our campuses and online, Argosy University offers undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate programs through these 8 colleges:
The university derives its name from the noun argosy, which means a rich supply. The Argosy University logo features a shield, decorated with a laurel wreath representing academic and professional achievement as well as a flame representing passion and personal development. The green in the logo symbolizes growth and harmony and represents academic achievement through the development of interpersonal skills. A bright and energetic color, the yellow symbolizes intelligence and clarity and representing personal passion and wisdom.
While student loans (Financial aid is available for those who qualify) may be available to you, exercise caution before signing up for the maximum loan for which you qualify. Remember, this is debt that must eventually be repaid.
Look for ways to cut costs and only borrow the minimum amount you need. Be conscious of the total amount you will borrow by the time you graduate, the total cost of your loan, and the monthly payments that will be required once you enter repayment. In short, be smart about the debt you are taking on and budget your expenses appropriately after graduation.
Any cash you pay now can help you to accumulate less debt and ease your financial burden in the future. Even the smallest amount that you can put toward your education today can save you hundreds of dollars over time. The Department of Education offers several options to qualifying students when it comes time to repay federal student loans. Plans vary from Income-Based Repayment Plans to a Graduated Repayment Plan that starts with a low monthly payment and increases every two years.
