Inquiry

This course, designed for explorationists, will assist participants in developing map data contouring skills required to produce reliable and high quality maps in support of exploration and production activities in the petroleum industry. The sessions will emphasize the explorationist's role as a searcher for deeply hidden hydrocarbons, the necessary positive approach to the interpretation and mapping of subsurface geological features, and the importance of constructing maps that effectively demonstrate and accurately illustrate exploration possibilities and drilling opportunities. Reliable methods for detecting, developing and displaying the not-yet-apparent subsurface features in areas where only fragmental well and seismic control is available are discussed and illustrated with case history examples. The sessions include a review of computer-generated maps and their application.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, the delegates will be able to:

  • Understanding the exploration data source and the nature of rocks
  • The relationships between tectonic forces and structural features
  • The different types of rocks classification
  • Understanding the trapping system and types of traps using map interpretation
  • Importance of data interpretation and mapping in the petroleum industry
  • Applying the seismic interpretation and Mapping using petrel software providing a big chance for getting the knowledge how to use the software for reasonable interpretation and map contouring
