The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) has launched a project to re-envision its future and aims to become one of the world’s top universities.
The University of the Future Project aims to see UAEU move into the top 20 academic institutions in Asia and among the first 200 globally by 2030.
As part of the project, UAEU has completed a 2030 scenarios sub-project exploring the future of higher education together with the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies (CIFS).
Its objective is to explore the future of higher education, to provide analysis on how UAEU’s environment and customer segments could evolve, as well as to serve as a platform for UAEU’s strategy and innovation.
Prof Mohamed Albaili, United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) vice chancellor, confirmed that as university education is becoming increasingly expensive and digital technologies more ubiquitous, higher education institutions need to adapt their business models and service offerings to remain relevant.
He added that the aim of the scenarios project is to address these challenges and their implications for UAEU towards the year 2030.
Earlier this year, UAEU jumped 40 places in the QS World University Rankings 2019.
UAEU rose to 350th place globally and is among the top 35 percent of higher education institutions in the world.
The QS World University Rankings 2019 uses six metrics where universities performance are evaluated according to its academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio and international student ratio.
Founded in 1976 by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, UAEU is a research-intensive university enrolling about 14,000 Emirati and international students.
As the UAE’s flagship university, UAEU offers a full range of accredited graduate and undergraduate programs through nine colleges – Business and Economics; Education; Engineering; Food and Agriculture; Humanities and Social Sciences; IT; Law; Medicine and Health Sciences; and Science.
The university has also established research centres of strategic importance to the country and the region which are advancing knowledge in critical areas ranging from water resources to cancer treatments.
