Established in 1855 as the Federal Polytechnical School, ETH Zurich has, from the outset, been a national centre for education with international appeal, attracting talent from all over the world.
At ETH Zurich, students discover an ideal environment for independent thinking, researchers a climate which inspires top performance. Situated in the heart of Europe, yet forging connections all over the world, ETH Zurich is pioneering effective solutions to the global challenges of today and tomorrow.
Our university for science and technology dates back to the year 1855, when the founders of modern-day Switzerland created it as a centre of innovation and knowledge.
The successful combination of a cosmopolitan outlook with national roots made the young educational institution one of the driving forces behind industrialisation in Switzerland: it brought the necessary expertise into the country, trained technical specialists and helped set up groundbreaking national infrastructures.
ETH Zurich was given its present name, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule), in 1911. Over the decades that followed, it entered into solid partnerships with the state and with industry and invested increasingly in both applied and fundamental research, which were gaining in importance in relation to education. The university grew steadily and in 1961 it embarked on the first stage of constructing its second site on the Hönggerberg, on the outskirts of Zurich.
In more recent times, global developments such as computer-assisted data processing and the far-reaching consequences of globalisation have placed ever-increasing demands on universities.
ETH Zurich reacts to these new challenges by creating flexible organisational structures: new research units and programmes have emerged and the research itself is becoming more and more integrated and interdisciplinary.
The long-standing tradition of ETH Zurich, combined with its ability constantly to adapt to new requirements, have brought great success to the university. Today, it ranks among the world’s leading universities of science and technology.

Best university I've ever seen in my life. Architecture, innovation, lectures.. I've been there for one week in 2017's summer for zuMUN. I can not stop think about these times. Absolutely it was the best week of my life. I am looking forward to visit again.

Probably the best school in Europe. It proposes an oustanding teaching program and great facilites. The students have are given much autonomy and the choice of courses is very wide. Students have access to the ASVZ Sport complex where more than 80 sports are practiced. Also, ETH has nearly 20 student associations representing the study disciplines alone, and countless more clubs for movies, sports, dance and language.

I enjoyed my short stay as a Research Fellow at ETH Zurich. The university is very alive and there is always an event going on. The lecturers are also very motivated and the Uni has a big budget -it is very easy to see from the way they gather Prof.s from all over the world-.
The building itself is historical and very beautiful. It worths seeing. During winter times they had a ice skating place at the terrace on the back.

Good lectures, motivated and brilliant professors and nice fellow students. ETH is definitely a top university! It is also visible that the university has a big budget (in comparison to other institutions in Europe). I am definitely enjoying my stay there!

Excellent University for all sorts of technical studies.
Tends to be on the theoretical side of the academical spectrum.
Selection process after the first year of undergraduate study is very harsh (60% do NOT pass) but after that drop out rates ralax.
Student services are quite good compared to other European universities (all "paperwork" can be done online, univesity overs vast amounts of software for free, excellent secondary services).
Fees are currently very moderate but planned to increase substantially.
