Graduate applicants should not be older than 30 years old, and postgraduate applicants should not be older than 35 years old on the date of application. They should have completed an undergraduate degree plus relevant professional experience in their home countries. Moreover, since the KAAD is a Catholic Christian organization, expect that there is a preference for candidates whose religious background is consistent with KAAD. Although students who follow a different faith may also apply, they should have an endorsement from a Catholic partner as well as a proof of their commitment to interreligious dialogues. Furthermore, applicants should have sufficient knowledge in the German language to ensure a successful study experience. The KAAD can provide a 6-month free German language course for interested applicants.
Annual applications for March selection close on the 15th of January, and on the 30th of June for September selection. The evaluation of candidates does not highlight specific study programs, although the panelists can give priority to those which are most significant to the applicant’s home country.
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) seeks international students who want to enroll in a graduate or postgraduate study program in Germany. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants should be enrolled in a development-related course, i.e. economic sciences, business administration, political economics, development cooperation, engineering, mathematics, urban planning, agricultural sciences, environmental sciences, medicine, education, law, and media studies, in their chosen German university. They should also be proficient in the language (German or English) to be used in their selected course. The DAAD Scholarships are exclusively for applicants from developing countries.
Annual applications close from August to October. Successful applicants are entitled to a monthly stipend of €750 (858) for graduate students or €1,000 ($1,145) for postgraduate students, medical insurance, and travel allowance. The scholarship is good for the whole duration of the study program, usually 1 to 2 years for graduate studies and 3 years for postgraduate studies.
The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Scholarship Program seeks international applicants who want to study a graduate or postgraduate degree in a university in Germany. Eligible applicants are students, not older than 30 on the date of application, from developing countries and countries which are currently undergoing a political transformation. They should have outstanding academic records as well as a passion for political and social endeavors.
Annual applications close on the 15th of July. Successful applicants for a graduate program will receive €850 ($973) per month for a period of 2 years. For postgraduate students, the monthly scholarship amounts to €1,100 ($1,259) for a period of 3 years. They will also receive tuition fee reimbursements of up to €500 ($572) per semester, and €120 (137) for medical insurance.
The Heinrich Böll Foundation is offering scholarships for prospective international students who want to pursue a graduate or postgraduate program in a state university in Germany. All nationalities can apply for this scholarship program.
Annual applications close on the 1st of March. Successful graduate program candidates from non-EU countries can receive €850 ($973) monthly stipend, tuition fees, and allowances. Postgraduate candidates from non-EU countries can receive €1,000 ($1,145) monthly stipend, €100 ($114) monthly mobility allowance, and other allowances. For EU nationals, graduate students can receive €649 ($743) monthly stipend and €300 ($343) book allowance per month; whereas, postgraduate students can receive €1,350 (1,545) monthly stipend and €100 ($114) research allowance per month.
