Renowned for technology and innovation, Derby is a thriving multicultural city and home to a wide range of industries with many global companies based here including Rolls-Royce, Toyota and Bombardier. It’s an exciting place to learn and experience university life, providing students with many opportunities to gain real world experience through placements and internships.
Our Corporate Plan sets out a 'back to basics' approach with a clear focus on delivering the core, fundamentals required of a high quality, successful learning institution. It is also forward thinking and ambitious in our commitment to our three strategic ambitions:
The Schools and Colleges Liaison Team and the Widening Access Team provide a link between the university and schools and colleges, assisting students to make informed decisions about their future by providing inspirational taster sessions and experience days. Find out more about how each team can support your students below.
We work with a wide range of schools and colleges from across the region. We offer an exciting and inspirational programme of free events which have been designed to showcase the breadth of options available to students at Derby. Our range of experience days will give your students the opportunity to experience university life and view our outstanding facilities. We can also offer a selection of academic workshops at your school or college, bringing the university learning experience directly into your classroom.
The Widening Access Team sits within the university's Equality and Social Mobility Unit. The team works closely with schools, colleges and sixth forms within Derby City and Swadlincote to provide outreach activity designed to improve attainment, and raise aspirations and awareness of higher education, and alternative progression opportunities. We aim to support all young people that we engage with to meet their full potential and make well informed decisions regarding their futures.

Thank you once again for doing your part to keep Edarabia the most trusted education source.
No guidence or support regarding coursework and bullying. I even felt like the tutors disliked me completely unprofessional attitudes! They just had a general can't be bothered vibe.

I really like the Uni. Very modern and awesome quality of facilities. I've done Business Management and Marketing stage 1 so far. But the support I was/I'm getting from staff is not as excellent as they claim it is.

Good, very modern and forward thinking University. My son went here and was taught and looked after by a group of very knowledgeable staff in the Engineering Department. He did very well and received high grades. There is a cafe, shops, restaurant and a student union service area. Parking can be a problem at times however

I studied in 2003 at the University of Derby (BA in Tourism) and since then I have never regret my decision. Great teaching. Very friendly and competent staff. Overall a great year!

If you are an international student be careful about studying at this University as some of the lecturers and supervisors are not qualified to be supervising. An example of this is a Senior Lecturer in Education did not have a Masters Degree in Education, but was supervising Masters Students. This lecturer had no credibility after extensive investigated and research into a contribution to education. If you are applying from overseas insist on verifying their qualifications or alternatively look for an alternative University.

Many universities prioritise research over student learning. I chose the University of Derby because of their dedication to the student experience and learning journey. Having spent four years at the University of Derby as a mature student, I firmly believe the university's commitment to my learning, the promotion of lifelong learning and the removal of social barriers to achievement, stands head and shoulders above the rest. Thank you, University of Derby
