Moving to France, for whatever reason, is an exciting adventure and an opportunity to enjoy a new way of life. Bordeaux International School is skilled in smoothing this transfer for you and your children, ensuring a continuity of curriculum and facilitating the acquisition of language skills due to its immersive bilingual programme. Situated in the heart of the city of Bordeaux in South-West France, BIS has 35 years’ experience in helping students achieve their full potential combining a bilingual education and an international learning environment. Our students are encouraged to think creatively, express themselves confidently, become independent, lifelong learners, and to make a positive influence in the world. BIS is managed by a co-operative (SCOP) meaning that every decision and action is dedicated to improving learning and student life.
Our school has grown and evolved over the years whilst retaining a maximum class size of 16, ensuring an opportunity to flourish in a multicultural setting of over 25 different nationalities. We teach pupils of all ages and nationalities with different educational and linguistic needs. BIS has been an accredited member of the Council of International Schools (CIS) since 2001, guaranteeing a significant assurance of quality. Early Learning and Primary, under contract with the French Education Nationale, enables students to follow a fully bilingual programme. Our Middle School follows both the Education Nationale and the Cambridge International Lower Secondary programme.
In Upper Secondary, we offer internationally recognised Cambridge IGCSE and A Levels. We aim to enable pupils to reach a level of academic achievement, knowledge and understanding which prepares them for international further education and ultimately a global career. Providing personalised support in university and careers counselling is a significant factor in the development of our students and 100% of leavers in 2022 entered a university of their choice in countries including France, UK, USA and Canada.
Our mission to encourage proactive, responsible global citizens means that we pay particular attention to support in academic study. Our experienced, multi-national teaching team provides active and differentiated learning where students work in a stimulating environment, challenging themselves to develop their full potential. We employ highly qualified, experienced teachers from all over the world. They share a passion for teaching and are dedicated to student success. They work together in a trusting, caring learning environment to deliver a unique curriculum based on both the French and English education systems, but with an international dimension that develops the potential of each student. Programmes and teaching approaches are frequently reviewed and adapted as a result of regular professional development both in France and abroad. Teachers work closely with parents to ensure that all aspects of student well-being are addressed. They are attracted to working at BIS due to its excellent reputation, and all share the same enthusiasm, energy and passion for this unique school.
We value our school community and its qualities of understanding, tolerance and respect for others. Activities are organised, such as international theme weeks, school shows, book fairs, the International award and clubs including chess, robotics and music band. Regular cultural visits are also scheduled and additional sports activities take place at local sites.
Boarding with a French host family extends cultural immersion and is an additional means for students to develop an appreciation of French culture and lifestyle through involvement with the local community. Students are encouraged to engage in a sustainable lifestyle, to develop an understanding of world issues and feel inspired to become global citizens. We would be delighted for you to come and visit our school, we can introduce you to the relevant head of section, show you round and answer any questions you may have

Thank you once again for doing your part to keep Edarabia the most trusted education source.
We chose to send our children to BIS to maintain their bilingual skills upon our return from the USA. Our daughter spent 6 years and our son 4. Both have now moved on to Collège in the state education sector. Their levels in all subjects has stood them in good stead during the transition. Our decision to leave the caring cocoon of BIS as their teenage years approached was due to our feeling that they needed to be part of something bigger. As an education professional all of my working life, including the role of head teacher, I was impressed not only by the academic qualities provided by a dedicated staff but especially the ethos of mutual respect and caring for others engendered by the school. The sense of community where everyone knew everyone from the early learning section through to the A level sections was wonderful to share. Parent participation was always welcome, a member of staff always ready to assist and inform. The small class size enabled teachers to take each and every child’s needs into consideration, and we have no regrets whatsoever regarding the choice we made as a family and I know our children enjoyed the valuable years they spent growing in such a multicultural environment.

My husband and I brought our three children from America and enrolled them at Bordeaux International School with the intention that they would learn French and keep up their English. We were very pleased with the school and our children learned French about 6 months later. We had our children enrolled at BIS for three years before moving back to the US. The teacher student ratio helped the children thrive and the director of the school is very dedicated to the school's success. We have French friends who send their children to the school and they are also very pleased. We return every year to visit the school as the children are still quite fond of their "French" school.

This is a great school to study in. The teachers there are the best teachers I ever seen in any of schools. (and I studied in 6 different schools all around the world) English is my second language but I still got my GCSE, and the school impact was one of the main reasons why i did get it. The school has helped me to progress in my studying and i am very grateful for their impact in my life.

We are a Spanish family who arrived in Bordeaux 3 years ago and this is our third year at the school. We are absolutely satisfied with BIS and the learning process of our two daughters. They didn't speak a word of French nor English when we arrived and now, they are fluent speakers of both languages. The secret of BIS is the small number of students in each class, the personalized teaching and the quality of their teachers. Apart from the languages, they expose the kids to new technologies and encourage them to work independently, for instance preparing power point presentations at a very short age. Our experience here is being amazing! I strongly recommend the school to foreing and french families.
