Skt. Josef’s International School

Skt. Josef’s International School was established to support the increasing need for an international school in Roskilde. The school provides an international education for children aged 5 to 16 based on the Cambridge International system. Currently we have children of expatriates, children of mixed couples, Danish children who have lived abroad with their parents and Danes wanting an international education, attending Skt. Josef’s International school.

Since the sisters established Skt. Josef’s School in 1904, it has been the mission that the school should be a place for all children, irrespective of belief, creed or background. At Skt. Josef’s we strive to make every individual feel valued, happy and successful. We encourage care, respect and responsibility, and integrity is prized. Working together in a safe, caring yet stimulating environment, we set high expectations whilst offering strong support, believing that this will lead to individuals who will succeed in their community.

The primary department is committed to ensuring that the children embark on their learning journey in an environment that provides stimulating and exciting experiences, and where the strong pastoral ethos helps the children feel safe, secure and happy to learn. We have well established systems in place for welcoming and supporting children to settle into their new learning environment. We value each child as an individual and work hard to nurture his or her personal strengths and interests.

Children typically start school in Year 1, at 5 years of age (one year earlier than in the Danish school system), through to the completion of primary school, Year 6, at around 10-11 years of age.

Skt. Josef's International School has designed a secondary school curriculum that builds on the learning achieved in the primary department as well as seeking an alignment of mission, learning targets, pedagogy and assessment. Five skill areas underpin learning in the secondary classes and create alignment with the outcomes and skills required for Year 10 and Year 11 (IGCSE). The general skill areas are research skills, social skills, communication skills, thinking skills and self-management skills. These skills not only reflect our aim to empower students and teachers in a culture that prioritises curiosity, humility and community, but are also the values inherent within the Skt. Josef’s school learner profile.

At the end of Year 9, students will move into the IGCSE program, Year 10 and Year 11, where they will spend two years working towards taking their final IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) exams at the end of Year 11. We do offer some the possibility of sitting the exams earlier for both Mathematics and ICT, and in the case of Mathematics, we also offer the opportunity of sitting an Additional Maths exam at the end of Year 11, for those students who are confident and copmpetant in the subject.
