Currently housing a collection of over 50,000 books and periodicals in the visual and media arts, craft, fashion, and design, the NSCAD University Library is the only Library in Atlantic Canada specializing in the fine arts and design fields. The Library also incorporates a number of special collections for exhibition catalogues, artists’ books, printed matter, and rare books in specialized subject fields. A major feature of the Library is the Visual Resources Collection which has over 140,000 slides, as well as 16mm films, DVDs, videos, CDs and audio tapes. Digital images are currently available through a number of licensed image databases.
NSCAD has three small campuses in downtown Halifax—each with its own unique architecture and atmosphere. The Fountain Campus is made up of 19 interconnected former merchant shops; the Academy Campus is a charming 19th century building that was once a high school; and the new Port Campus is a sleek converted warehouse overlooking the Halifax waterfront. There’s always something exciting going on at NSCAD.Notable visitors to NSCAD over the years include Sol LeWitt, Dan Graham, Lawrence Weiner, Joyce Wieland, Adrian Piper, Miriam Shapiro, Robert Frank, Sonic Youth, William H Macy, and many others. NSCAD offers an interdisciplinary university experience unlike any other art school in the country. I earned my Bachelor of Design (Honours) at NSCADU some years ago. I cannot express the amount of gratitude I hold for the quality of teaching I received from the Design faculty. I use the knowledge and experience I soaked up from my time at the university every day in my career as a Graphic Designer/Developer.

I absolutely loved my experience at NSCAD. I graduated in 2013 with a major in Textiles and Fashion and have felt supported and encouraged in pursuing a career in my field.
The Professors and Technicians I had the pleasure of interacting with during my time here pushed me beyond what I imagined I was capable of and gave me the skills to fulfil my academic and professional goals. The facilities are not only well equipped but also have an incredibly unique atmosphere. The Duke campus is what I initially fell in love with upon my first visit and its quirkiness continues to have a place in my heart.
I continue to come back time and again to volunteer and work with the university and to assist in promoting its wonderful programs and helping current students to showcase their work.
