Is your child anxious about speaking in Public? Does he have a shy personality? Help them overcome this anxiety and boost their confidence this winter break.
Listed are some of the things that can help boost confidence and self-esteem in your child.
1. Stop drawing comparisons between children:
When you compare two children, you are showing them their weaknesses, in turn increasing their insecurities. Instead, appreciate their unique and special gifts.
2. Give the responsibility of age-appropriate chores:
Ask the child to help you in your house chores or give them age-appropriate errands to run like, setting the dinner table, help you keep an eye on his/her younger sibling. Giving them smalls tasks will increase their sense of importance and confidence.
3. Give them the option to choose:
Give them the liberty to make small decisions like choosing their own toys, deciding the activities for the weekend, etc. If you want, you can preselect the options but let the decision to finalize the option be in their hand. This will bring them the sense of empowerment.
4. Hone their leadership skills:
When learning the ability to ‘lead’ others, the child learns to help others and develops confidence in their own skills.
5. Teach them public speaking skills:
Teach the skill of public speaking by using different tools like voice modulation, correct body posture, and use of correct expressions. These will give your child a boost of confidence. Exposure to Public speaking will enhance their self-esteem.
6. Stage Performance:
Performing on stage in front of a crowd requires confidence; giving stage exposure to the child reduces their anxiety and boosts self-confidence.
