Marist Brothers Linmeyer opened in 1966 with Brother Christopher as Principal. It was intended as a Primary School to replace the Koch Street School which was closing down, and most of the 258 boys transferred from Koch Street. In 1981 the first girls were admitted to Marist Brothers Linmeyer along with three staff members, namely Mrs Venter, Mrs Casasola and Mrs Karvelas. Permanent reminders of the pioneer Marist School at Koch Street were brought across to Marist Brothers Linmeyer. These included the original foundation stone as well as the original altar and the alter stone from the Koch Street chapel.

In 2016 Marist Brothers Linmeyer celebrated its Golden Jubilee of 50 years of academic excellence in Linmeyer. Offering an inclusive academic, cultural and co-curricular programme across the Pre-School, Primary and High Schools, our 1220 students are each encouraged to achieve their personal best. Well-qualified, dedicated educators teach an innovative curriculum in a technology – enriched learning environment hoping to nurture independent thinkers for lifelong learning.

The school makes use of contemporary facilities which are constantly being upgraded to stay abreast of educational trends. These include a customised Pre-School, a Therapy Centre which caters to the needs of our students across several disciplines as well as a state of the art Media Centre.

Students at Marist Brothers Linmeyer are encouraged to participate in numerous sporting activities to further foster the ideals of teamwork and support that are part of our Marist tradition. Swimming enjoys great focus with the addition of an indoor heated learn-to swim facility to supplement activities in our full sized pool. Numerous cultural activities exist to cater to the needs of students whose interests extend beyond the playing fields.

Guided by a value based ethos of 125 years and a solid work ethic, it remains the aim of Marist Brothers Linmeyer that each individual will come to know God within an environment where all people, irrespective of cultural, language or religious differences, are respected and appreciated.

Many modern schools pride themselves in their classrooms and buildings but tend to forget the need to provide auxiliary facilities that complement, enhance and broaden our students’ educational experience. At Marist Brothers Linmeyer we offer the following facilities for the use of parents, students, staff and identified sections of our community.

Our Pre-School is situated at the entrance of the Primary School. It offers a relaxing, welcoming, friendly atmosphere.

We have three Grade R and two Grade PR classrooms which are fully equipped to aid in the full, all-round development of the student. We have construction toys, dress up corners, creative equipment and interactive TV’s which are all used to ensure the learning and development of our young hearts and minds.

Our playground is grassed and equipped with two large undercover sandpits, swings, jungle gyms, bicycle tracks and more. This all keeps the children learning through play.

Students are taught by a dedicated team of professional educators who do what they love and love what they do! They strive to achieve the “personal best” for every child in their care.

The children engage in other class activities such as music and movement, a developmental appropriate phys ed programme, conversational zulu, computers and they visit the library every second week.

The Primary School aims to provide quality, relevant and innovative education for students from Grade PR to Grade 7. Our caring environment fosters learning and personal growth, by way of a dynamic curriculum taught by an enthusiastic, dedicated team of educators. Class numbers are relatively small and a well-balanced programme exists to meet the needs of each individual whilst providing a healthy element of competition which encourages each student to do the best with their gifts. Catholic, gospel values form the basis for every aspect of learning. Respect, tolerance and understanding of all other faiths and cultures is encouraged.

Marist Brothers Linmeyer High School is situated on the northern side of the campus where most academic programmes take place. Facilities used by the High School extend onto the southern side of the campus as well. We offer a full programme combining spiritual, academic, cultural activities and sports, giving students a wide range of subjects and extra-curricular activities to choose from.

The academic time table in the High School is run over a seven day period with six lessons per day ranging from forty-five minute to fifty-five minutes in length. Our educators and learners gather for a morning assembly starting with a prayer and birthday congratulations. After a few announcements, students proceed to their register classes before their formal lessons.

One thirty-five minute break enables students to enjoy a variety of nutritious foods prepared by our tuck shop and to relax and socialise.

Extra-curricular activities take place on most afternoons from 14h45 to 16h30. The Marian Resource Centre is open for research and academic work every afternoon.

From time to time, academic, cultural and sports tours are organised. A co-curricular computer course is offered within the academic programme.

Marist Brothers Linmeyer, with its history going back to the early 1960’s, has always prided itself in being able to offer a wide range of sporting activities to its learners. To accommodate this diverse complement which includes all the main sports such as cricket, rugby, netball, athletics, tennis, swimming, soccer, cross country and hockey, we have added equestrian, archery, golf, basketball and water polo.

Being able to provide the facilities for all these sports remains a challenge. By careful planning and co-operation, among staff and teams, we can meet the needs for both the High and Primary schools, using the fields we have on the campus.

My child has truly flourished at Marist Brothers Linmeyer. The quality of education they provide is exceptional, and the staff is incredibly helpful. I have seen a remarkable progress in my child's academic and personal development since they joined the school.
