Victoria Girls’ High School is a Proudly South African girls only senior school of about 425 learners, situated in Grahamstown, South Africa.
The school caters to learners from Grades 8 to 12 and offers a holistic educational approach through a variety of academic subjects, sports and co-curricular activities.

In 2007 VGHS was accorded the double honour of being selected as one of the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Top 70 schools in the country, and being chosen as the top educational institution in the country in the Petro-SA Proudly South African Homegrown Awards. These awards attest not only to VGHS’s consistent academic excellence, but also to our celebration of cultural diversity and youth empowerment.
VGHS offers a broad range of sporting opportunities at both competitive and social levels. Some of these are: Hockey, Netball, Swimming, Tennis, Squash, Athletics, Cross Country. Girls are also encouraged to enrol in the skills development program where they gain experience coaching various sports.
With several competitive hockey teams, VG is privileged to use the Rhodes University Astro for weekly practices and matches. This is in addition to the two grass fields on the vast VG campus with the newly-renovated netball and tennis courts taking pride of place alongside them.
The 25m swimming pool is located on the Eastern side of the campus and is used for training for competitive swimmers as well as our substantial beginners swimming program where all girls who have not yet learnt are taught to swim.Grahamstown and Rhodes University affords our girls a range of opportunities to get involved in outside sports. These include: Archery, Karate, Horse Riding / Equestrian and Mountain Biking.VG boasts two recently upgraded squash courts as well as facilities for track and field training.
The VGHS Music School is a beautifully-renovated building situated next to the main school block. The Music School houses 4 fully-equipped classrooms, a large performance room, a small computer room / library and three practice rooms.
VG has some of the largest subject music classes in the Eastern Cape: Gr 12 – 36, Gr 11 – 26, Gr 10 – 39.
Our 4 full-time music teachers offer tuition in the following instruments: Piano, Violin, Viola, Flute, Recorder, Marimba, Brass and Voice.
Girls who elect to take Art as part of Creative Arts in Grade 8 and 9, and Visual Art or Design in Grade 10 to 12 have the opportunity to attend classes at the Johann Carinus Art Centre. Girls can choose within the following categories for Visual Art: Painting, Graphic Art & Printmaking and Sculpture. For Design they can choose between Textile Design and Ceramic Design.
