The school was established in 1975 and was known as Post Primary school number 2, the school is the second secondary school in Tembisa. The school was a shack structure and in 1976 it relocated to Sedibeng its current location and was renamed Boitumelong Junior Secondary School.

The had only 16 classrooms made up of two blocks which catered for then standard 7(grade 9) and standard 8(grade 10). The school also had an administrative block, a library, a handcraft Centre, a science laboratory and a woodwork Centre and two blocks of toilets.

In 1984 two additional classroom blocks, one double story and one three story to upgrade the school. A new administration block, library and two multipurpose classrooms where added to the school’s infrastructure.

The first principal of the school was Mr Makhoti (1975-1983), he was replaced by Mr B Mtshali (1984-1991), in 1992 the 1st female Principal Ms. Mathabathe was next in line from (1992-2008), in 2009 Mr Phosa was the schools fourth Principal leading the school from (2009-2013) and in 2014 the school changed Principals again with Ms. Makena a former student at the school being the new School Principal from (2014-till date)

Amongst its Alumni, we have produced political leaders, doctors, engineers, health workers, business men and women and many other instrumental people in society.

The school has prominent products like, Panyaza Lesufi (Gauteng MEC of Education); Phunki Sekhonyela (Former Gauteng spokesperson in Education); Oupa Sedibe (Current education spokesperson in Education) and Professor (Professor and head of nuclear medicine department at University of Pretoria and Steve Biko Academic Hospital).

In its current teaching staff, the school prides itself in having former students at the school being the current educators and management from the Principal (Ms. Makena), Deputy Principal (Mr Reseala), Educators Ms. Molefe, Ms. Fikelo, Mr Nkosi, Mr Khubeka to mention just a few.

The school is situated right in the heart of the Tembisa Community and we serve a wider community base which comprises of both the elderly and youth. The school serves the entire community from households to community orgernizations and churches as well as political affiliates by housing their meetings and activities.
