Jakarta Montessori School has been educating children for more than 30 years, since its inception on 5^th October 1986.  We follow the best practices of an authentic Montessori school. The school clearly defines its institutional identity, Montessori principles, enduring values and beliefs, and educational outcomes. The School aims to give your child the best possible beginning to develop him/herself physically, mentally, socially and emotionally.

Jakarta Montessori School is recognized as the centre of excellence for Montessori schools.  Our school is a fully accredited Montessori School with the Montessori Evaluation and Accreditation Board, London, and recieved Akreditasi A for all level from Badan Akreditasi Nasional Indonesia. We are also affiliated to the International Montessori Council in the USA and Montessori Australian Foundation. All our lead teachers have International Montessori Diplomas.

The Montessori Programme is centred on the child and encourages building a foundation of interest in learning. By giving the opportunities in our school’s prepared environment and with guidance from our well-qualified teachers, your child will develop a love for learning and achieve independence, self-confidence and high self-esteem. He/She will be in a unique environment where children from all parts of the world come together and learn from each other through their daily interaction and appreciation of the different cultures. He/She will be encouraged to learn to work to the best of his/her ability, care for and respect others through a deeper understanding of the meaning of sharing, and expand a natural curiosity for the world around him/her. JMS has a Moms and Tots (6 to 18 months), Toddlers (18 months to 3 years), Preschool (3 to 6 years). The school moved to a new spacious, custom designed and built premises in September 2005. We have dedicated classrooms for Toddlers, Preschool, Lower Primary and Upper Primary. Each classroom contains a complete set of Montessori materials appropriate for the age group within that classroom. Every classroom also has access to an outside area where children are able to plant vegetables and flowers or to work outside in the clean and fresh air.

Children in our Primary class enter a different stage in their lives and development. They experience the much wider environments of Mathematics, Reading and Writing, and Life in General. Your child takes responsiblity for the care of their classroom and for their own learning. Our teachers guide and facilitate their learning in both interesting and intriguing ways. Your child will develop enthusiasm for their school and for learning about the world in which they live.

Firstly, the basic skills of Mathematics and Language, where your child use’s Montessori materials to introduce various concepts. Secondly, our teachers recount narratives about how the Universe, Life and Civilisation came into being. Through these narratives, the topics of Science, History, Geography, Geology, Biology, Zoology, Astronomy, Archaeology, Botany, Physics, Chemistry, and many others are covered.

Thereafter, your child will investigate individually, or in groups. Through their own research they will develop skills of “how to use a library”, “how to work computers and the Internet”, and improve their communication abilities. A day’s schedule consists of uninterrupted classroom work in the morning, followed after lunch by activity sessions covering Physical Education, Dance, Music, Art, Bahasa Indonesia, Religious Studies, PSHE, cooking, or working with Computers.

There are also a wide range of other after school activities.

Children at this age need to venture out into the wider environment beyond school. To facilitate this your child will go on field trips and work on local community projects, learning about their place and their responsibilities in our world.
