Academie Marie-Claire adheres to the purposes of basic, traditional educational programs: instilling a love for learning, developing comprehensive language skills; nurturing an appreciation for the sciences and the Arts; gaining the appreciation for sports and athletics. These are nurtured daily in a warm, secure and safe environment at Academie Marie-Claire.
Students at Academie Marie-Claire are encouraged to be creative, to think critically, and to express their ideas and thoughts freely. The diversity of the student population and staff promotes teamwork and builds a cooperative spirit where personal responsibility for one’s actions is required.
Awareness of issues beyond the walls of the Academie is introduced, discussed and debated. Self-reliance and independence, as well as a collective impact on the community at large, are promoted. Thus, life-long learning skills having wide social implications are fostered. The intent is always to “Aim Further, Aim Higher” so that the Academie cultivates future leaders sensitive to the needs of others – leaders whose ultimate purpose is to improve society and give life a purpose larger than oneself.
The history of Académie Marie-Claire is one of unbridled perseverance and uncompromising commitment driven by a love for children and a passion for quality educational programs. It is a history where the growth of the Academie parallels the dedication of the founder of the Academie, Madame Marie-Claire Martin.
Madame Martin registered her first children for daycare service in 1981. These students received an educational program and home-cooked meals. They were exposed to arts and craft and provided with a stimulating environment that nurtured their brain as well as their bodies. From there emanated the resolve to elevate the standards of educational service and deserved by children as well as improve the quality work associated with the name Marie-Claire. The opening of several other daycares ensued, each gaining acclaim and notoriety. Answering to the demands of parents, La Maternelle de Marie-Claire, an award winning development, was built in 1995 followed by the construction of Academie Marie-Claire in 1997.
Since then, the Academie experienced a 2nd phase of construction in 2000 where technology became an integral part of the academic program. In 2005, the 3rd phase of expansion took place and included additional classrooms, a full-sized gym, an expansion of the Computer Lab and a full-fledged Science Lab (the only primary school offering this). The mission of Academie Marie-Claire is to enrich the lives of students by providing them with a warm, caring and safe environment where opportunities for growth prevail, where exposure to knowledge is plentiful and where they can develop as leaders and contributing members of the larger community.
If you are looking for an educational establishment with a proven track record of success where students perform a minimum 1 year above grade level, graduate from 6th grade fully bilingual in French and in English, have the opportunity to learn a third language such as Spanish, Italian, or Mandarin, are exposed to cutting-edge technology throughout the school, and where the ONLY International Mathematics Champion throughout the history of Canada evolved, and the ONLY primary school with a Science Lab, you may wish to look further into the offerings at Academie Marie-Claire.
From pre-school to primary levels, the educational experiences of the staff is fused with empirical research studies on child development and brain theory to integrate a cohesive educational experience rich in social dynamics and environmental support to bring students to new heights and to “Aim Further … Aim Higher”
Academie Marie-Claire offers bilingual educational opportunities unparallel in breath and scope. Students are exposed to first rate teachers, each a specialist in his/her field. The Math teacher only teaches Math; the French teacher, only French and so on. This process is followed for all of the grades, all of the classes and with all of the subjects, including the optional courses, the parascolaire courses and the specialty subjects. The curriculum is a one of the great strengths of the Academie. Students perform a minimum one year above grade level and, in some cases, this can extend to 3 years above grade level.
The Outreach Program promotes a global education that enables students and staff to bridge distances and cultures while simultaneously contributing to the greater good of society. The program offers a unique opportunity for students to engage in building relations with students from other schools both within Canada and throughout the world. The second aspect of the program merges with the Leadership Program by helping students forge relationships with selected High Schools, other establishments, enterprises and community organizations.
Students learn to become positive change agents in their lives as well as in the lives of others. Emphasis is placed on mutual respect, group collaboration, and peer support and serves to promote self-esteem, improve social skills and ameliorate the quality of life to which students are exposed daily. The ultimate benefits are students sensitive to the needs of others and students who understand that their role is one of leadership in improving the lives of those around them and in contributing to the welfare of society.
