Welcome to Alfred State and thanks for your interest. To understand what makes Alfred State great, you should meet our graduates and ask them how their careers are going.

Every one of our programs includes applied learning, hands-on training, and individual attention to empower students to land a job in their chosen career. For many of our majors, the number of employers making job offers is greater than the number of students graduating with that degree.

Alfred State’s faculty members have worked in the real world and are extremely knowledgeable in their fields. As evidence of our success, 99 percent of our graduates either continue their education or are successfully employed after graduation.

We are a "right-sized” college: Big enough with 70+ majors and 3,600+ students. Small enough to be comfortable and personal.

Founded in 1908, our college has two campuses located in the peaceful and beautiful settings of Alfred and Wellsville, NY, offering a small, safe, and friendly environment. On campus you may be amazed to see deer grazing on lawns, or look twice when you notice that this college town only has one traffic light.

Many students note that the rolling hills and unique environment allow them to focus more on studies with fewer distractions. Small class sizes and an 18:1 student-to-faculty ratio offer many advantages for students who want to learn through close interactions with faculty, staff, and their peers. At Alfred State we proudly call ourselves Pioneers. It not only represents our Southern Tier heritage, but also our drive to achieve greatness.

Pioneers are on the cutting edge of technology, sustainability, and civic engagement, and are always looking to explore new territory and ideas. As a college of technology, we continue to progress and evolve by adding in-demand majors and facilities that allow our students to keep up with the latest industry trends and equipment.

With more than 100 student clubs and organizations, 19 NCAA Division III teams, and numerous intramurals, it’s easy to get involved and be a part of things on campus. From Drama Club, to Alfred Hockey, to Greek Life, we’re sure to have something that peaks each student’s interests.

Whether you're looking for a career-ready associate degree or to complete a bachelor's degree for career advancement, Alfred State Online allows you to achieve your educational goals on your schedule, when and where you like. This flexibility is even available to students outside of New York State. Anytime. Anywhere.

Degrees earned through Alfred State Online are identical to the diplomas awarded to thousands of alumni of Alfred State, and applied learning is an integral component for each major. This makes for better prepared graduates who can put their knowledge to the test in the real world.

Alfred State is a State University of New York (SUNY) campus. Students representing more than 160 countries are enrolled at SUNY. They choose SUNY for the highly recognized faculty and the 5,000 courses of undergraduate study. You are considered an International Student if you are not a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or do not have refugee status in the United States.

The Student Success Center team members help students grow personally and academically. Services include focused instruction by peer and professional tutors; help for students with disabilities and the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), a state funded extended program for educationally and economically disadvantaged students.

We understand that filing for financial aid is a complex process. While the primary responsibility for college expenses is up to you and your family, we are aware of just how challenging that can be. That is why we try to make it easier.

The Honors Program was created to encourage motivated, curious, academically superior students to explore some aspect of their program in greater depth and to broaden and deepen their awareness of themselves as responsible, contributing members of a larger community. Honors Program participants complete a series of seminars, a substantial honors project and 10 hours of volunteer community service. The permanent college transcript of students completing program requirements will read “Honors Program Graduate.”

The Center for Intercultural Unity strives to provide an open-minded, welcoming and safe environment for the Alfred State College campus and community. Through educational workshops/programs, professional training, advocacy and outreach, the Center for Intercultural Unity facilitates student’s self-awareness, learning and growth of different cultures, viewpoints and experiences. The center supports individuals in matters of academic, social, cultural and personal well-being, and promotes understanding and appreciation of differences, as well as similarities. The Center for Intercultural Exploration is committed to creating opportunities for students to empower and educate themselves, their peers and the community in which they live. We support and promote under-represented student organizations, including, but not limited to LGBTQ+, students of color, women, Veterans and military service, international students and faith based groups.

We provide services for international students, both inbound and outbound, assist in navigating the VISA process for incoming international students, as well as facilitating all outbound study abroad opportunities. The Center for Intercultural Unity works closely with academic departments and student affairs offices on campus to create an empowering and enriching college experience.
