Edinboro University was founded in 1857 as the Edinboro Academy, a private training school for Pennsylvania teachers. The school was funded and governed by the citizens of Edinboro, Pennsylvania, who paid just $200 for one acre and $3,200 to construct its lone two-story, six-room building, which still stands on EU’s campus as the remodeled Academy Hall. Joel Merriman was the Academy’s first principal.

Today, Edinboro University sits on 585 sprawling acres and has an additional 26-acre campus, Porreco College, in Erie, Pennsylvania. As led by Interim President Michael Hannan, it continues to develop and evolve as northwestern Pennsylvania’s largest university. The institution’s name has changed and its focus has expanded over the decades, but its core mission of challenging and supporting students in their pursuit of academic excellence remains constant.

I gained a great deal of experience from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. College is what you make of it and the experiences you take advantage of. Edinboro University of Pennsylvania offered many opportunities and I took advantage of them.

Comment: Edinboro University of Pennsylvania has made me successful and I haven't even graduated yet. The only downsides of Edinboro rest solely on the fact that it is a state school and it shows where funding is inadequate. Each program is strong and the leading program in the Erie, PA area, and some of the best in PA and the nation. One of the best schools in the nation for art, nursing, criminal justice, or education. The only University in Pennsylvania with an on-campus elementary school for majors to study in.
