Founded in 1824, Kents Hill School is one of the oldest co-educational independent schools in the United States. With its historic buildings and views of the mountains, our campus is a reflection of the spirit of Kents Hill, a school embracing innovation in the classroom and in student life while honoring the core values that have made us strong for close to 200 years. Our rich history shapes our character and continues to define it today.
Located in central Maine, Kents Hill School is an independent, coeducational boarding and day school grades 9-PG attracting 225 students from 17 states and 18 countries. Since 1824, Kents Hill has been dedicated to providing transformative experiences rooted in the power of community, character, and core values. Students are coached through a 4-dimensional (4D) experience of leadership development, academics, athletics, arts, and extracurricular activities.
Committed to the individual and the potential that lies within, Kents Hill School challenges students to grow into engaged, creative learners, global stewards, and compassionate leaders. At Kents Hill School we educate our students in mind, body, and character to Prepare for the challenges and opportunities of higher education, Accept and respect themselves and others, and work together for the common good, Be responsible stewards of our natural environment and Kents Hill School’s community heritage, Embody the ideal that one person of principle can always make a difference.
Kents Hill School is a thriving, dynamic community of students and adults from around the United States and the world. They are the types of students with whom we want my daughters to go to school and the types of adults whom we hope will serve as their mentors and role models, not just their teachers.
Place: Located just three hours from Boston and one hour from Portland, our idyllic, 400-acre campus is nestled in the midst of the Belgrade Lakes and provides sweeping views of the mountains of Maine and New Hampshire. State-of-the-art facilities including the $6.5M Bibby and Harold Alfond Dining Commons, Joanne and Dick O’Connor Alpine Training Center, and Bodman Performing Arts Center provide the ideal setting for our community to live, learn, and play.
Program: At Kents Hill, a student’s success is not measured solely by test scores or college acceptances, but by the relationships that they build and the opportunities that they have to experience, develop, and live by a set of core values. Our college preparatory program focuses on the individual and supporting young people in reaching their fullest potential. Illustrative of this commitment is our character and leadership development program, Four-Dimensional (4D) Academic Curriculum, and Academic Coaching program where teachers trained in academic coaching deliver personal, empathetic, and innovative learning experiences.
While there is much to learn online, we encourage you to visit our campus. During my first visit, we was struck by the genuine people, inspiring location, outstanding facilities, and commitment to providing transformational learning experiences. It’s the reason why Lisa, Shea, Zoe, and we chose to make Kents Hill our home.
