Our mission is “To transform the Rio Grande Valley, the Americas, and the world through an innovative and accessible educational environment that promotes student success, research, creative works, health and well-being, community engagement, sustainable development, and commercialization of university discoveries.”

Innovation. Opportunity. Purpose. Careers. That’s what the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is about. With campuses throughout the Valley, UTRGV empowers successful futures, enhances daily life, and lets our region shine as a global innovator in higher education, bilingual education, health education, biomedical research, and emerging technology that inspires positive change.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is one university spanning four counties and multiple locations. Our purpose is to be a university for the entire Rio Grande Valley and beyond. UTRGV's core priorities are: Student Success; Educational Opportunities; Health and Medical Education; Research Impacting the Rio Grande Valley and Beyond; and Community Engagement.

Our world needs a new kind of professional. At UTRGV, that’s what our bilingual, bicultural, and biliterate learning experience delivers. With more than 120 programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels, we are driven by visionary thinking, the most modern technology, internationally acclaimed faculty, and offerings necessary for students to achieve career success and make a difference in the Valley, the Americas, and the world.

With personalized mentorship from world class faculty, leading edge facilities and technology, opportunities for significant research, and a setting in the Rio Grande Valley that delivers unparalleled learning outlets for everything from aerospace, to international business, to cultural border studies, to marine biology, UTRGV’s undergraduate learning experience is focused entirely on student success. In addition to the depth and breadth of knowledge you’ll gain from our core curriculum, majors, and minors, you’ll also benefit from the kind of hands-on, active learning that brings that knowledge to life and applies it in meaningful ways. Internships. Service learning. Study abroad. Research. Field and lab work. Capstone experiences. And our Honors College will offer even greater academic challenges and learning opportunities.

The Graduate College at UTRGV offers world class educational experiences and convenient course offerings with campuses in Brownsville and Edinburg in sunny, tropical South Texas. Students can choose from online course formats to the traditional on-campus learning environment with tuition that is one of the most affordable in the country.

The purpose of Student Academic Success is to help students in the Rio Grande Valley make a successful transition from high school and two-year institutions to UTRGV and to make strong progress through the end of their bachelor's degrees and beyond. We are committed to provide the tools that students need to flourish.

Student Services is dedicated to provide support to students in resolving a diverse number of obstacles faced along the way to a successful achievement of their academic career.

The Counseling Center provides free and confidential counseling services for UTRGV students to address mental health concerns, and seeks to promote personal growth and well-being among our campus community through education and outreach activities.

The Division of Research, Innovation and Economic Development at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) promotes, encourages, and provides assistance for research and scholarship and creative activities in all disciplines by the university faculty, staff, and students. The services cover guidance on all research administration including funding opportunities, proposal development, research compliance and post award administration. The office also facilitates the transfer of discoveries, creative works, inventions, and processes resulting from research and scholarly activities to the private sector to enhance the quality of life for society.

The mission of Student Educational Outreach is to develop and provide meaningful program experiences that positively impact the college preparation, access, and degree completion of underrepresented students in the region. With campuses in Brownsville, Edinburg and Harlingen, UTRGV serves the Rio Grande Valley and beyond. With a population of more than 1 million people, the Valley is one of the fastest growing regions in Texas. The Valley’s geographical location places it in a region where its roots extend into both Mexico and the United States. Every year the Valley grows and with it comes economic opportunities for graduates.

Home to natural habitats like the Santa Ana Wildlife Refuge and South Texas Botanical Gardens, the Valley is a wonderful place to just kick back and relax. South Padre Island, the largest barrier island in the world, serves as the hot spot for Valley locals and tourists. Whether it is the beautiful beach or the opportunity for personal and professional growth, the Valley is a perfect place to call home.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 as the first major public university of the 21st century in Texas. This transformative initiative provided the opportunity to expand educational opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley, including a new School of Medicine, and made it possible for residents of the region to benefit from the Permanent University Fund – a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and other institutions.

UTRGV has campuses and off-campus research and teaching sites throughout the Rio Grande Valley including in Boca Chica Beach, Brownsville (formerly The University of Texas at Brownsville campus), Edinburg (formerly The University of Texas-Pan American campus), Harlingen, McAllen, Port Isabel, Rio Grande City, and South Padre Island. UTRGV, a comprehensive academic institution, enrolled its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine welcomed its first class in the summer of 2016.
