The Curtin Enabling Program Regional Bursary has been developed to encourage and support regional or remote students who have chosen to study an eligible enabling course at Curtin University.

Moving to Perth for tertiary study may seem daunting, but it can be a fun and rewarding experience for students who prefer to learn in a collaborative and interactive classroom environment. This bursary can provide financial assistance towards relocation and accommodation costs for students who relocate for study, travel costs and expenses associated with studying online.

Value
The Curtin Enabling Program Regional Bursary will provide the following support:

A total value ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 as a one-off payment. Bursaries are awarded according to need and distance from Perth.

  • Tier 1 - Accommodation and relocation (Curtin housing) Contribution of $3,000
    For students who require assistance with accommodation and relocation cost to Perth from a regional location. The amount is paid direct towards your Curtin housing.
  • Tier 2 - Accommodation and relocation (off campus housing) Cash payment of $2,000
    For students who require assistance with accommodation and relocation cost to Perth from a regional location.
  • Tier 3 - Commuter or study costs Cash payment of $1,000
    For students who are relocating to Perth from a regional location, however do not require accommodation assistance, or those commuting from their regional location to campus (more than 1.5 hours each way)

Application process

Step 1: Access application form
Application form can be accessed via the ‘My Studies’ tab in OASIS or via the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Multiple scholarships can be applied for at one time
  • Tips on how to complete your application can be found on the ‘Applying for scholarships’ link on the scholarships website

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page and within the Scholarships Channel on OASIS
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt
Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment
Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:

  • Responses to questions in application form
  • Demonstration of financial hardship
  • Low socio-economic background
  • Demonstration of financial hardship

Step 6: Outcome

  • Outcome will be sent via the Scholarships Channel within 6-8 weeks of the scholarship closing date
  • All unsuccessful and successful applicants will be notified

Step 7: Acceptance
Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline

Please note:

  • Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient need
  • Scholarship will commence from the semester of study for which the scholarship was awarded
  • Scholarship is not transferable to another major, course or university

Enrolment Requirements
Recipients must meet the following:

Remain enrolled full-time in eligible course

Changes to Enrolment
If a recipient intends to change their enrolment, they must also apply in writing to the Scholarships Office (scholarships@curtin.edu.au) for approval BEFORE the change. The Scholarships Office will advise how the change will affect their scholarship.

Withdrawal or Terminated from units or course: A recipient who withdraws from their units or course of study, or has been terminated from their studies will become ineligible for the continuation of the scholarship, will not receive any further payments and will be required to repay to Curtin University the stipend awarded for that study period if applicable.

Cancellation of Scholarship: Notwithstanding any provision above, Curtin reserves the rights, at its sole discretion, to cancel the award of, or continuity of, the scholarship where the sponsor ceases to fund the scholarship.

Eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for a Curtin Enabling Program Regional Bursary:

  • Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, Australian permanent humanitarian or New Zealand citizen
  • Enrolling full-time (100 credits) in an eligible enabling program at Curtin University in Semester 2, 2020
  • Past the compulsory school age in Semester 2, 2020 (as defined by the Western Australian School Education Act 1999)
  • Must be living in, or relocating from, a regional or remote Western Australian location

Please note:

  • The primary purpose of this bursary is to assist students who live in regional areas, however preference will be given to recent school leavers under the age of 20 and students who can demonstrate financial hardship.
  • This bursary is non-deferrable
