The Rose Parker Scholarship will provide one scholarship of $2,000, for one year, to a student who has spent time in out-of-home care. The Scholarship is open to undergraduate students of all disciplines, but preference will be given to students undertaking a course offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences or Curtin Medical School.

Care leavers are acutely underrepresented in higher education, with only 1% of care leavers accessing university education. The Rose Parker Scholarship aims to provide assistance and encouragement to these students, so that they can achieve a transformative education.

Value
The Rose Parker Scholarship will provide the following support as one-off payment:

A cash payment of $2,000. The amount can be used at the recipient’s discretion to contribute towards educational related expenses.

Application process

Step 1: Access application form

  • Application form can be accessed via the ‘My Studies’ tab in OASIS or via the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
  • If you are a new student, in order to apply online, you must first receive the offer of a place for the eligible course and accept the offer.
  • Once you receive your Curtin Student number and activate your OASIS account you can apply for the scholarship online.

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Multiple scholarships can be applied for at one time
  • Tips on how to complete your application can be found on the ‘Applying for scholarships’ link on the scholarships website

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page and within the Scholarships Channel on OASIS
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt
Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment
Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:

  • Responses provided in the application form, including passion for course and vision for career
  • Demonstration of financial hardship

Note:

  • Preference will be given to students undertaking an undergraduate course offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences or Curtin Medical School
  • Preference will be given to students commencing the first year of their degree in Semester 2, 2020
  • Preference will also be given to students who have recently left care.

Step 6: Outcome
All successful and unsuccessful applicants notified of their outcome via the Scholarships Channel (Student OASIS) within 6-8 weeks of the scholarship closing date

Step 7: Acceptance
Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline

Please note:

  • Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient need and merit
  • Scholarship will commence from the semester of study for which the scholarship was awarded
  • Scholarship is not transferable to another major, course or university
  • The award of the scholarship is subject to receipt by Curtin of the scholarship funding from the scholarship sponsor

Enrolment Requirements
Recipients must meet all of the following:

Remain enrolled in an eligible course of study at Curtin University

Changes to Enrolment

Withdrawal or Terminated from units or course: A recipient who withdraws from their units or course of study, or has been terminated from their studies will become ineligible for the continuation of the scholarship, will not receive any further payments and will be required to repay to Curtin University the stipend awarded for that study period if applicable.

Cancellation of Scholarship: Notwithstanding any provision above, Curtin reserves the rights, at its sole discretion, to cancel the award of, or continuity of, the scholarship where the sponsor ceases to fund the scholarship.

Eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the Rose Parker Scholarship:

  • Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa holder or New Zealand citizen
  • Be a care leaver; i.e. has spent time in statutory out-of-home care as a child
  • Enrolled at Curtin University in semester 2, 2020
  • Minimum course weighted average (CWA) of 50 (if applicable)
  • Willing to participate in one or more of the following:
    • Hand written thank you note to donor
    • Meeting with the donor (facilitated by the University Advancement team)
    • Impact report outlining how the scholarship has helped you with your studies and what the scholarship means to you
