The SCAA Memorial Trust Scholarship has been developed between the Surface Coatings Association Australia Inc. and Curtin University to support a students interest in areas of research associated with coatings technology, for example polymers, pigments, corrosion or adhesion problems or rheology, which are areas of interest to the SCAA.

The Surface Coatings Association Australia Inc. (SCAA) is a not-for-profit membership organisation which aims to further the understanding and development of the technology of Surface Coatings in Australia. SCAA Memorial Trust for Education and Research was set up in 1995 to foster projects of an educational and/or research nature considered worthy of support by the Association.

Value
The SCAA Memorial Trust Scholarship will provide the following support for up to one year (based on full-time enrolment of 100 credits per semester):

A total of $5,000 paid as a cash stipend of $2,500 per semester. The stipend may be used at the recipient's discretion to contribute to education-related expenses such as text books and/or general living expenses.

Application process

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Multiple scholarships can be applied for at one time
  • Tips on how to complete your application can be found on the ‘Applying for scholarships’ page on the scholarships website

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page and within the Scholarships Channel on OASIS
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt
Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment
Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:

  • Responses to questions in application form regarding how the student would benefit from additional financial support
  • Interview performance
  • CV
  • References

Step 6: Shortlist for Interview

  • Shortlisted applicants will be sent an interview date and time via their student email.
  • Shortlisted applicants must be available for designated interview time
  • Interviews will be conducted between 7 September 2020 and 11 September 2020
  • Unsuccessful applicants will be sent a notification via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS)

Step 7: Outcome
Successful and unsuccessful interview applicants will be notified of their outcome via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS)

Step 8: Acceptance
Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline

Please note:

  • Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit
  • Scholarship will commence from the semester of study for which the scholarship was awarded
  • Scholarship is not transferable to another major, course or university
  • The award and continuity of the scholarship is subject to receipt by Curtin of the scholarship funding from the industry sponsor

Enrolment Requirements
Recipients must meet ALL of the following:

  • Remain enrolled in initial course of study
  • Maintain a full time study load of at least 100 credit points each study period at Curtin University
  • Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 70 each study period
  • Pass all units attempted each study period

Changes to Enrolment
If a recipient intends to change their enrolment, they must also apply in writing to the Scholarships Office ([email protected]) for approval BEFORE the change. The Scholarships Office will advise how the change will affect their scholarship.

Withdrawal or Terminated from units or course: A recipient who withdraws from their units or course of study, or has been terminated from their studies will become ineligible for the continuation of the scholarship, will not receive any further payments and will be required to repay to Curtin University the stipend awarded for that study period if applicable.

Cancellation of Scholarship: Notwithstanding any provision above, Curtin reserves the rights, at its sole discretion, to cancel the award of, or continuity of, the scholarship where the sponsor ceases to fund the scholarship.

Eligibility

Eligible courses

  • Any Science and Engineering Honours year and undertaking research project associated with coatings technology
  • Any Masters (by coursework) study level and undertaking research project associated with coatings technology

Eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible for apply for the SCAA Memorial Trust Scholarship:

  • Australian or New Zealand Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa holder
  • Enrolled in an eligible honours or fourth year or coursework masters at Curtin
  • Minimum Course Weighted Average (CWA) of 70
  • Undertaking a research project that relates to coatings. The research involved can relate to the raw materials for coatings (manufacture and development), or into the use of coatings (application, characterisation, testing, in-service performance and environmental aspects)
  • Not be in receipt of any other externally sponsored scholarship
